Middle School
In Geography this week year 5 have been exploring our restless earth through the medium of boiled eggs and Oreos! We have learnt that the structure of an egg very much reflects that of Earth; starting with the thin, fragile crust (shell) and moving in towards the solid core (yolk). The Oreos have been used to show what happens at the plate margins - and a great excuse to eat Oreos!!
Year 6 pupils are exploring global food trade. We have learnt that due to the UK’s size and climate it is not able to provide us with all the food we need, thus the need for imports. We have mapped out the route various foods take to reach us here in the UK and are now moving on to track the journey of our clothes by exploring the global supply chain.
In French this week year 5 have practised talking about which countries and which cities they visit during their holidays. They have looked at the verb aller and habiter and they have started to recognise why we need different endings to conjugated verbs.
In DT this week the children have been checking their measurements before cutting the wood for their creations. The old adage of measure twice cut once has certainly been proved on more than one occasion. It is excellent to see how the children have been developing their skills since the return to school and they are really making progress.
Year 5 have been busy in maths this week! They have been finishing off finding missing angles using known facts to help them (angles round a point add up to……) and have then moved on to working on perimeter and area, using knowledge of shapes to find missing lengths and calculating the area of more complex shapes.
