This was a very exciting match for the first game of the season. Edge Grove batted first and Sam and Dan Ma put on an excellent opening partnership of 86 with Dan scoring 33 and Sam scoring 31. Kian then came in and scored a quick 23 off 14 balls but wickets fell regularly and we were not able to push on after such a good start. St Columba’s batted extremely well and although we took wickets at regular intervals their opening batsman scored an outstanding 52 not out off 51 balls to win the match in the last over. Dan Ma bowled well taking 3 wickets for 19 runs in his 4 overs and Daniel Me, Sam and Louis all bowled well and took one wicket each.
The U11 girls had a fantastic first match back this week after a long break from fixtures, playing cricket away at Heath Mount School. All three sides demonstrated excellent match play with some strong bowling and batting and tight fielding in tricky cold and wet conditions. The girls should feel proud of their performance and close wins against good competition.
Special mention goes to Dara and Amber for excellent bowling, Ami and Tigi for their confident batting and Isabella and Ella for their tight fielding. An excellent start to the season.
All Year 6 boys played against Heath Mount in pairs matches. It was so good to see all the boys out playing again and the teamwork and camaraderie on show reminded us of why we play sport in school. We were all very pleased with the quality of cricket played by the Edge Grove teams and the hard work and effort that has been put in during training sessions really showed with all three teams being on top of their matches.
Mr Wagstaff’s team played a hardball game and he was extremely impressed with the quality of cricket on display. Archer and Connor deserved special mention for both hitting a number of boundaries and scoring over 20 runs each.
In the soft ball matches there was some excellent batting from our boys and the bowling was of a really good quality. Mr Wickens wanted to mention Oliie C, Shay and Nathan for their good batting. Mr Lloyd also wanted Alex’s batting to be noted as he hit a number of fours and sixes. Well done to all concerned and a special mention to Caitlin who made her debut for the boys hard ball team and really impressed with her good all-round skills.
Parmiters won this match 6-0, but there was some very good tennis on display from all our players and two close matches (George losing 2-4 in his singles and he and Declan losing 2-4 in their doubles). Well played to them and Roman, Henry and Jimi.
