In Maths, year 5 have continued with their topic of fractions and have been refining their skills of adding and subtracting fractions with different denominators. Alongside the tasks set using Google Slides they have also benefited (and enjoyed) from online Mangahigh tasks to improve speed, fluency and accuracy. Year 6 has been taking ratio and proportion to the next level. Week 3 has continued with problem solving scenarios when given one ratio total before progressing onto two value ratios. The challenge has been to use and apply ratio when working with two different ratio proportions in the same question. It has been great to see their knowledge stretched beyond the 11+ curriculum thus preparing them for the challenges in Key Stage 3.
In French, year 5 have been consolidating their understanding of the topic ‘en ville’. They have enhanced their vocabulary by adding interesting opinions and have used them to complete speaking, reading and writing tasks. I have really enjoyed listening to their answers to the question 'Qu'est-ce qu'il y a dans ta ville?' 'C’est comment ta ville?' Year 6 have applied their prior learning and used the vocabulary and grammar structures we have explored in lessons to create wonderful French adverts. They have all succeeded in producing exciting ads to sell their dream house. I have been very impressed with the standard of their work and with the positive and confident attitude they have demonstrated this week. Fantastique!
In Science, year 5 have been investigating solubility. They have had a couple of lessons where they have explored what will dissolve and what a saturated solution is. They have learned about the scientific vocabulary such as solute and solvent. Year 6 have been looking at how to classify life and the features of the different groups. They have explored vertebrates and invertebrates.
