1st Team Edge Grove 5 Kingshott 2 Edge Grove started this game with their defensive duties the main focus for the first ten to fifteen minutes. This worked well with Milo, Jimi, Monty and Ollie defending and releasing the ball early for us to set up our midfield to distribute the ball to our forwards. Not only did we set up opportunities to score but Nathan and Nefeye confirmed our dominance in attack with two goals. At half time the score was 2-1 to Edge Grove. At half time we discussed that we continued to work on our defensive duties and release the ball early to create more opportunities to score. The second half produced 2 goals from Nefeye and 1 by Niccolo to complete a 5-2 victory. Well played everyone and a very satisfying team performance that produced the victory. We will work in training to help us understand our defensive duties and continue to pass and move to create opportunities to score. Thanks to our parents for their support and we look forward to our next match before half term. 2nd Team Edge Grove 1 Kingshott 0 The 2nd team played a much bigger team from Kingshott at Kingshott. Despite the size difference, Edge Grove outclassed them with nifty ball skills and accurate passing. We were in the Kingshott half for more than 75% of the match. We had many opportunities to score but the excitement of shooting at goal meant that many opportunities were wasted. The team worked intelligently and Ediz must be congratulated for excellent captaincy work. The team respects him and he makes clear decisions that obviously worked.
3rd Team Edge Grove 5 Kingshott 2 Edge Grove played really well in this match against Kingshott and it was good to see that the team had made progress with their game as they were defeated by Kingshott at Haileybury earlier in the season. The team had taken onboard the coaching and advice to pass the ball and this was in evidence from the start. We distributed the ball around the pitch really confidently and this allowed us to dominate possession. In truth, we could have scored many more goals but the shooting was not up to par; this didn’t matter or detract from a really good game of football.
4th Team Kingshott only arrived with 4 players so we played 2 matches with mixed teams. In the first the Maroons won 4-0 but, after a rearranging of the teams, the second match ended 2-2 with the Blues staging a late rally having been 0-2 down. Aarav scored three goals and everyone joined in enthusiastically.

Another tough game against a strong Kingshott side. Kingshott played the game with lots of intensity which later proved too much for our strong defence. A special mention to Henry H for his constant pressure in the midfield and to Blake L for his impressive saves keeping us within reach until the final 5 minutes of the game. We looked forward to our final game of the half term at home next week. Colts B Edge Grove 4 Kingshott 1 After a lapse in concentration within the first 15 seconds where we conceded after the kick-off Edge Grove worked fantastically as a team to keep constant pressure on all of the Kingshott players. We never let their players have time on the ball, making great tackles and causing Kingshott to make wayward passes which we pounced on well to make the score 2-1 to Edge Grove at half time through great team goals. The second half saw the physicality rise with a penalty awarded to both teams, which EG scored but Kingshott smashed into the crossbar. With great defense covering work from Dylon throughout the match we were able to hold off their late push for goals and score another well worked team goal. The boys showed great patience on the ball and tactical awareness to come out on top today.
Colts C Edge Grove 1 Kingshott 2 We played a strong, solid Kingshott team who were well organised and had an excellent counter-attack. We started well and built up pressure through a number of corners and finally scored through Artem squeezing the ball into the back of the neck. A goalkeeping error let them back into the game making the score 1-1. Early in the second half unfortunately we conceded again through a goalkeeping error and the score was 1-2. Timi was quick and effective throughout; winning possession and attempting to counter-attack. Noah played exceptionally well again dribbling through the opposition at will but didn't always have enough options to get a goal from his great work. Defensively he came to the rescue many times running back to help out. Hopefully we will perform more consistently as a team next week after working hard in training. Colts D Edge Grove 6 Kingshott 3 This was such an exciting game to watch and all the boys played extremely well. Kingshott were first to score but Edge Grove pushed in attack and Jamie was able to score a great first goal. We quickly found another break in the defence and a second goal was scored by Aiden. In the final few minutes of the first half Kingshott were able to score their second goal and we went into half term drawing 2-2. In the second half, Kingshott were able to score another goal but our defence was strong and although they tried they were unable to get past us. This gave our boys an opportunity to go on the attack; which they did! There was some terrific passing from all our boys which meant that Jamie could score another 2 goals and Alfie a further 2 goals. Final score Edge Grove 6 Kingshott 3.
Colts E Edge Grove 3 Kingshott 1
Edge Grove played a great game of Football against Kingshott. The spacing and passing around the pitch was excellent as well as moving into spaces and calling for the ball. The final score was 3-1 to Edge Grove which was a great result for a great match.
Colts F Edge Grove 7 Kingshott 2
We played a festival with Kingshott and the boys played some very good football, passing the ball well and creating a number of goal scoring opportunities. The first matches ended in a 0 - 0 draw and a 4 - 1 win to Edge Grove. In the second round of matches we had a 2 - 2 draw and an emphatic 7 - 2 win to Edge Grove. Although the two wins and two draws were a very pleasing result, the improvement in the way the boys are passing the ball and winning the tackles is great to see.
U9 Mr Davies Beechwood Park 6 Edge Grove 4 This match saw the team travel to Beechwood Park to play an enthralling game where the football really shone. The team was passing the ball really well and creating opportunities all over the pitch. Noham scored a hat-trick, which was well deserved for his efforts all over the pitch. We were unlucky to get caught by some long kicks from the keeper which bounced over the defenders heads to enable Beechwood to score. There were so many saves from both keepers that the match could have had a much higher score. It was a great game to be a part of.
U9 Mr Marazana Beechwood Park 9 Edge Grove 0
This week the team provided us with an exciting match. Regardless of the final score, Edge Grove worked hard and made Beechwood strive for each goal. The team showed some good passing skills and were determined in their defence. At various points in the game there were signs of promise in some Edge Grove breaks made from Beechwood mistakes within the Edge Grove half. Converting such mistakes to goal scoring opportunities will be a focus for our training. Admirable sportsmanship in the face of a difficult result and in being so gracious each player showed themselves to be true ambassadors for Edge Grove.
U9 Miss Turner Beechwood Park 4 Edge Grove 1 The sportsmanship between this teams was fantastic to see. All players supported each other when Beechwood Park scored some impressive goals. Beechwood Park would have scored many more if it were not for our goalie Oliver who made some impressive saves. Logan of Edge Grove worked incredibly hard and ensured edge grove had possession if the ball for a great deal of the game. He assisted Blake in scoring a fantastic goal for Edge Grove in the first quarter.
U9 Mrs Massey Edge Grove 2 Beechwood Park 8 It was really wonderful to see this team more organised than their previous match. They quickly got into their formation and worked well together. It was good to see some great sportsmanship when the other team scored. When they began the match, they were spread out but bunched together as the match went on. This is something they need to work on but overall it was pleasing to see the progress. U8 Mr Wallis Edge Grove 8 Beechwood Park 0 Edge Grove played some beautiful football on Thursday afternoon against BP. We started with great intensity and put a lot of pressure on the opposition from the start. Rather than be drawn to the ball we made sure to spread out and pass the ball into space, which helped us score some well worked team goals. We showed great maturity in our attitudes throughout the fixture and many of the boys were happy to try different positions of the pitch.
U8 Mr McManus We had an excellent afternoon of football against Beechwood Park on Thursday with every boy getting the opportunity to play in three matches. The Edge Grove boys played with great enthusiasm and an improved awareness of playing as a team and trying to pass the ball to a teammate in a better position. The overall results were very pleasing with Edge Grove recording 6 wins and 3 draws out of the 9 matches. Well done to all the pupils involved.
Girls U9 Hockey v Beechwood Park
Edge Grove Won 3 Lost 6
Playing in teams of 5 a-side the girls were divided into 3 groups, each group playing every Beechwood team. The girls played 45 minutes of tough hockey against our opponents.
It was a great experience and the girls thoroughly enjoyed the competitive element of the afternoon. We won 3 out of 9 games showing we still have much to learn and put into practise when playing against other schools. Special mention goes to Miriam and Sienna Vasani for working extremely hard all afternoon and to Dotty and Julia for getting stuck in to tackles and marking well.

Edge Grove started strong having worked on a number of new skills in games lessons. They ensured they used the width of the pitch and passed the ball around. Ella had a lovely run down the wing with the ball and passed it into the dee but Edge Grove were unable to put the ball in the back of the net. Tilly worked hard in midfield trying to get the ball off Beechwood and pass it down into the Beechwood half. Edge Grove continued to move the ball to the wings allowing many chances to shoot. With Roshni and Sienna in defence they ensured that no ball got past them. Constant pressure from Kirsten and Freya allowed Freya to score the first goal dribbling the ball from the halfway line. Edge Grove moved around positions in the second half and continued to work hard, this allowed Sienna to score the last goal.

A tough game for the girls! Nevertheless Edge Grove didn’t give up and worked hard to demonstrate the skills they had been learning in lessons. The girls showed determination in defence, with Beechwood Park excelling in their shooting circle. Unfortunately Edge Grove didn’t have many opportunities at goal. Therefore, as a result, we will continue to work on our attacking skills to progress our play!

Edge Grove were a little slow to get focussed and remember what positions they were playing, however they were relentless in attack and continued to fight for possession of the ball. Maya Rose and Olivia worked hard to keep the ball in the Beechwood Park half and scored a number of goals between them. When Beechwood Park made a break Sophie was there to ensure they did not get the ball into the Edge Grove dee. Radha was also imperative at ensuring the ball did not enter the Edge Grove dee and was able to even score her own goal when she moved to centre forward.
Edge Grove U8C v Beechwood Park Edge Grove 4-1 Beechwood Park
The girls all played enthusiastically and were determined to remember all their hockey skills and put them into practise. It was a very fast-paced game, with both teams having equal possession of the ball. Working hard to remember their spacing, Edge Grove managed to score a number of goals and towards the final half of the match managed to keep the ball from Beechwood Park ensuring that it did not enter our dee. Well done, girls!
Ten girls in Years 5 and 6 attended the day long hockey tournament at Haileybury on Friday 8th October. With some tough opponents in our group we stood a good chance of getting through if we played consistently at the level we are capable of.
Excellent defending from Ayomide and goal keeping from Natasha reduced our opponents opportunity to score in each game. The mid fielders worked hard at trying to get the ball into our attacking half and, when up front, Aria, Lily-Rose and India made every effort to score when they had possession but, on the day, we did not manage to convert many of these attempts. Unfortunately, the final game, a loss to St Andrew’s meant we did not qualify, however, the girls learnt a lot from the afternoon and were, above all else, polite and demonstrated excellent sportsmanship throughout the day.
