Edge Grove 164 for 5 in 25 overs Lochinver 103 all out in 24 overs
This was an excellent batting display from Kavish and Sam after the early loss of a wicket. The boys batted extremely well with Kavish eventually retiring on 65 not out. Sam added a valuable 39 runs with Edge Grove posting an imposing total. Lochinver’s captain batted really well but a combination of very good fielding and bowling meant that we were able to take wickets regularly and win the game. Emmanuel was the pick of the bowlers taking 3 for 10 in 3 overs with Gray taking 2 for 21. Dan M, Kian and Dan Ma all took a wicket and Ethan ran out two batsmen.
There was a fantastic match played on Wednesday afternoon which, after 39.5 overs went down to the final ball. Edge Grove batted first and scored a very respectable 81 from their 20 overs, Charlie P scoring a very good 24. In reply Lochinver started well and after the first 6 overs were on 35-4. Some very disciplined bowling, especially Freddie and Thomas C, Dev M and Declan O meant that Lochinver needed a three off the final ball and managed to squeeze home for a win. A really brilliant match, the players were a real credit and it was a very enjoyable afternoon.
In glorious sunshine the girls played 5 matches during the course of the afternoon. We won the toss for every game and each captain of that game chose to field first. They worked hard as a team and encouraged each other well during the games. I was particularly pleased to see some excellent batting which the girls have focused on in lessons recently, choosing the appropriate shot and scoring as many runs as possible.
Their bowling was good throughout the afternoon, giving away only a small number of wides and no balls once we had warmed up! There were a few missed catches and 4’s scored by the opposition due to over throwing but the girls.
St Columba’s 129 Edge Grove 182 Edge Grove won by 53 runs Having won the toss we put our opponents in to bat and then proceeded to bowl extremely well with eight of our ten bowlers taking a total of ten wickets. This then reduced their overall batting score to 129. Our reply was excellent with every batsman scoring runs with few wickets taken until the last two overs. By that time it was too late and our total of 182 was never in jeopardy. Well done to one and all.
The team played really, striking the ball hard and with a degree of accuracy. It was great to see a number of 4’s being scored as well. The fielding was superb and we ensured a straight line so as to not give too many wide balls. There was also a great effort all round in the field and there were nine catches made.
Year 4 played the first full co-educational fixture on Thursday against Beechwood Park. All the boys and girls in Year 4 played together and performed extremely well.
This was a fantastic game of cricket. George MJ was the outstanding performer fielding excellently taking 4 catches and scoring 17 runs. Ben R also batted well scoring 21 runs. Iris, Arav, Alex, Ben and Nico all took a wicket and Kellan also took a good catch. We unfortunately lost 7 wickets when batting and our running between the wickets was not as good as it should have been and these are two areas that Beechwood Park out performed us in. Well done to both teams on a great match.
This was a brilliant afternoon of cricket and all the players showed excellent skills. Athina A batted brilliantly scoring the only 6 of the game and also scored two 4’s. All of the bowlers were fantastic and bowled accurately, getting 8 Beechwood wickets. Edge Grove scored 87 runs against Beechwood’s 82. A well deserved win in a super game.
An excellent performance by the team saw a win for Edge grove. There was some strong batting and excellent fielding to ensure this was a match to remember. It was particularly pleasing to see all of the bowling we had been working on coming to fruition.
The glorious weather matched a glorious performance by Edge Grove and Beechwood Park. A superb combination of bowling and fielding by all the Edge Grove team won them 8 Beechwood wickets. Their batting skills were no less impressive with a half century achieved in 1 inning. Well done to all the team!
It was a beautiful day for cricket with Edge Grove showing themselves to be determined players. It was a close finish, with Edge Grove winning the match with 52 runs to Beechwood’s 49. Roma impressed with her accurate bowling skills, whilst Koby managed to catch out a few players with his quick fielding. Edge Grove worked together to ensure that they finished victorious. Well done to both teams involved, this was a fantastic game of cricket.
Lockers Park 132 for 5 in 20 overs Edge Grove 98 for 6 in 20 overs Orley Farm won by 34 runs
We played against a very strong Orley Farm team on Wednesday. We bowled first and the bowlers did a great job against some very good batting however our fielding did let us down and we were not able to take all our chances. Kavish was the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 19 in his 4 overs. Louis also took a wicket via a great catch from stand in wicket keeper Henry. Although needing nearly 7 runs an over it was a small outfield and I was quietly confident we could get close. Unfortunately our top performers so far this season all failed to reach double figures but in stepped Louis who batted with no fear to score an excellent 48 to give us a chance with 5 overs to go. However it was not to be and our innings fizzled out.
In the 2nd XI fixture Orley Farm won the toss and elected to bat. Playing in a pairs match Orley Farm batted very well and despite some very good bowling by the Edge Grove team Orley Farm managed to score an impressive 194 in their 24 overs. The fielding was excellent by the Edge Grove team but Orley managed to squeeze in quite a few boundaries including some very impressive sixes. In reply Edge Grove did struggle and despite regular boundaries and some good running the wickets fell at very frequent intervals. By the end of the round of pairs Edge Grove had scored 68 runs. This was a loss for Edge Grove but the team learnt a great deal and we are looking forward to our next fixtures against Lochinver and Beechwood Park.
In the 3rds match we won the toss and stand-in skipper Nikhil chose to bowl first. We started quite well but couldn't make an early breakthrough. It was a pairs game and each batting pair faced 4 overs. The match was 12 a-side. Jack bowled well with swing on display and also Nikhil bowled tightly. Monty was excellent when he took his turn behind the stumps and didn't let anything past him. Lucas was ever present in the field and made it difficult to score runs when the ball was hit near to him. Orley Farm scored 211 from their 24 overs and we never really got started in the chase. The ball was bouncing low and our batsmen found it difficult to adjust to the lower bounce and carry. We played over the top of a lot of balls and didnt time it well enough when making contact. With 15 an over required off the final 4 overs Nikhil and David started well with consecutive boundaries. In the end we fell 30 runs shy of the target.
Edge Grove 129 St Columba’s 69 Edge Grove won by 60 runs
Edge Grove batted first with Dylan top scoring with 16 runs and Oliver C, Otto and James all scoring 11 runs. We then bowled well, taking wickets at regular intervals. Henry and Yuvraaj both took three wickets and Ollie C, James, Freddie, Oliver W and Dylan also all took a wicket.
Edge Grove 131 St Columba's 68 Edge Grove won by 45 runs As the boys have no doubt heard many times from their coaches, it was the bowling and fielding that decided the match: St Columba's gave away 80 extras and we took 6 wickets, which took 30 runs off their total. Tobi also scored a fine 22 off his second innings, Rahul scored 10 and ran someone out and Ridley scored 10. Well done to them! Artem had a good caught and bowled, David bowled someone out and caught another, Ayaan bowled two maiden overs and Noah scored 8, helped with the run out and bowled well. All in all, it was a really good performance by the boys. Well done!
Edge Grove 288 Belmont 273 Edge Grove won by 15 runs Belmont won the toss and decided to field first. They started strongly getting three wickes in the first over. Edge Grove batted well and managed to pull ahead of Belmont early on. Daisy Beer was awarded girl of the game and the team performed outstandingly, keeping our winning streak alive. At the end of the game, we scored 288 runs to 273.
Edge Grove 129 Belmont 162 Belmont won by 33 runs Edge Grove started out strong and batted very well, with a couple of fours in the first over. However, our game awareness let us down as Belmont managed to stump us out quite a few times. For the next match we need to work on being more aware of the position of the ball during fielding. The game ended as Edge Grove 129 and Belmont 162. Mirabelle Levene was commended for fantastic batting, and Ariana Izadpanah for fielding.
Edge Grove 242 260 Kingshot
Edge Grove won the toss and chose to field first. They worked well in the field with some excellent bowling from Lilyrose, Aria and Sophia, ensuring they kept Kingshots runs down to a minimum. Ayo caught a wonderful ball and some quick reactions from Alex allowed Edge Grove to stay on top of the game. Edge Grove went into bat with only 260 runs to beat. Edge Grove started strong but struggled to get their eye in and use any defensive shots, this meant that the ball hit the wicket a number of times, reducing the number of runs Edge Grove had. Ayo scored a number of 4’s and Emily and Natasha batted well but this was not enough to counteract the 12 wickets Kingshot managed . Edge Grove were much stronger but unfortunately could not pull off the win.
Edge Grove 290 Kingshott 278 Edge Grove won by 12 runs The girls played an excellent game against Kingshott starting with tight fielding and good bowling from every member of the team. When in bat they communicated well and took the opportunity to score runs wherever possible. A great team effort with special mention to Wren and Bryony for their consistent bowling and to Tara for scoring 2 fours on a difficult pitch. Well done everyone!
Edge Grove 316 Kingshott 263
Edge Grove won the toss and chose to field first, they were all a little nervous and no one wanted to bowl first. Olive and Keavy stepped up to take the first over and bowl extremely well. Iris, Ellie P, Darcey and Anabelle also bowled extremely well ensuring Kingshot could only score 24 runs in 6 overs. Edge Grove went into bat with a score of 263 to beat. There was some excellent batting and decision making, ensuring they always tried to push for a single run off each ball. Girls hit eight 6’s in total and three 4’s showing how good their batting was.
Edge Grove 273 Kingshott 234 In beautiful sunshine at Kingshott the girls started the match excited, yet focused. They continued to play this way all match, each and every team member playing to the best of their ability. Winning the toss Edge Grove fielded first. Their bowling was consistent and accurate. Kingshott had few opportunities for scoring runs. Special mention must go to Eliza and Esme for taking wickets. With strong batting all round the girls did themselves proud. Excellent talking between batting pairs was noted and runs scored at every opportunity. Cathy and Zuriela scored several 4’s and six 6’s between them. Well done to the whole team who performed well and enjoyed their away game to the maximum!
Edge Grove 167 Kingshott 92 India won the toss for Edge Grove C team and decided to bat first which allowed the girls time to see how Kwik Cricket worked. Each partnership took a few balls to warm up and get used to the opposition’s bowling style but soon began to hit 4s and 6s. With three overs each, Devika and Khushi scored the most runs with 52, and Evie and Ellie S scored second highest with 48. The girls ended their innings with 167 runs. Edge Grove began to field, which meant rotating the fielders so that every player got several turns to bowl. Sofia P, Jannah and Evie each got one wicket and Ophelia got an impressive two wickets in the same over. There were chances for a catch however that moment will have to wait until the next match. At the end of the match Kingshott had 92 runs and of course, it was nice to win, but on this day it was also great to have played a competitive match again.
