The badminton team of Max, Ben, Evan, Shrey, Mamoka and Raneem won 8-3 with the table tennis team (Nefe, Otto, Steffi, Billy, Emin and Dillon) came out on top 20-12. Well done both teams!!
U13 Basketball v Westbrook Hay Edge Grove 30 Westbrook Hay 15
We started slowly in this match but as it wore on our speed of play improved, as did our man marking in defence. We were then able to turn our possession into points with more accurate shooting and team play. Monty was the top points scorer which included the first three pointer of the season. Prashil led the team well and was the focal point of most of our attacks. Albert and Nathan did particularly well on defence, breaking down a number of attacks. Well done to Lir who played his first game for the team and performed really well, as well as Kavish, Henry, Luke, Ollie G and Jimi who all performed well and were their reliable selves.
U12A v Orley Farm Edge Grove 6 Orley Farm 3
Edge Grove were back on top this week focussing on their attacking and defensive structure, working on coming up together in a flat line and running onto the ball from depth in attack. Hard work from Niky and Rex ensuring that players were in the correct position paid off. The first try was scored by Ollie C however this was disallowed due to handing off and a misinterpretation of the rules. This was soon rectified and Ollie came running in with another three tries. A lovely piece of play on the wing from Albert drawing in a player and then sending the ball out to Niky on the wing in space allowed Niky to score. Orley Farm came back with a few attacking phases where they burst through the defensive line of Edge Grove. Edge Grove continued to battle back with a further two tries from Niccolo sealing the win. Well done
U11 Mr McManus Edge Grove 4 St Columba’s 8
This was an excellent game of rugby and the boys should feel very proud of how well they played against a very good team. We started well and made our tackles and ran strongly with the ball in hand. We did however lose the ball in contact too often in the first 5 minutes which allowed St Columba’s to run in two tries. When we improved this and kept the ball in contact we were able to recycle it quickly and ran in two good tries of our own. The play was very even with the score being level at 3 - 3 at half time. In the second half the number of tackles we were having to make finally took its toll and St Columba’s ran in 4 unanswered tries as we tired; however this was a very good performance and something we can build on for next week.
U11 Mr Wallis Edge Grove 5 St Columba's 10
Edge Grove arrived at Harpenden Rugby Club just as the sun burst out of the clouds to warm up our afternoon of Rugby. EG showed some great footwork and speed to cause the opposition defense some problems, however we took a little while to get ourselves physically into the game which led to some early tries for St Columba’s. Eventually the agility on our side showed, leading to a well worked try but unfortunately our tackling still wasn’t up to scratch and we conceded a couple more tries before the end of the half. After a positive halftime team talk the boys came out with a newfound enthusiasm. We showed better determination in our tackles and defense, occasionally leading to a mistake and turnover of possession in our favour. We used the possession and by showing some confident offloads and agility scored a number of well worked tries. The size of some of St Columba’s players did tell as they also kept the scoresheet ticking over, but I am very proud of our players enthusiasm and determination throughout the game.
U11 Mr McDonough Edge Grove 7 St Columba’s 9
The boys played extremely well in this match and should feel proud of how they performed against a very good team. We started slowly but as we grew in confidence we were able to defend much better and also keep possession of the ball. We ran in some good tries although St Columba’s did prove to be just a bit too strong in the end.
U10 Mr Davies Edge Grove 9 St Columba's 15 The team played a lively match against St Columba's and were able to use lots of powerful runs to score a selection of tries. It was great to see some excellent tackling and a real competitive edge to the team. We used the width of the pitch to score in the corners and showed fantastic commitment.
U9 Rugby Mr McManus We had a festival of rugby on Thursday , playing against some good schools and the boys played some excellent running rugby. The first match against Aldwickbury was the toughest although we were unlucky not to win it with the scores being level at 2 - 2. We took this confidence into our next two matches against Beechwood Park and St Columba’s which we won fairly convincingly. We tackled well all afternoon and scored some great tries, the focus for our last matches next week is to improve the speed of play and move the ball away from the contact area quicker.
U9 Mr Davies Edge Grove played three matches against; Aldwickbury, St Columba's and Beechwood Park: Our toughest test of the season so far! The team drew against Aldwickbury in their first match and won against the others. A superb afternoon of rugby!
U9 Miss Harding and Mr Gayle The boys played some excellent rugby this afternoon and continued to show how much they have improved. We played 6 games in total, winning 4 of them and losing 2. This was a great effort and the boys should feel proud of the way they performed. We ran with purpose and scored some good tries. We just need to be more confident in the tackle situation.
U8 Travelling to Orley Farm on Thursday the Year 3s brought many of the focus points from last week’s fixtures to play some entertaining Rugby. Each of the teams demonstrated impressive defence to put pressure on OF when we did not have the ball. This resulted in many turnovers in possession in our favour, to which we showed great patience to find the space and score some well worked tries. Many positives to take to the next fixtures.
U13 v Belmont Edge Grove 14 Belmont 0
A very exciting game of netball for the U13 girls, winning an outstanding 14-0. The girls showed strength in all areas of their performance, making great interceptions, bringing the ball confidently down the court and then converting all opportunities into goals. The girls demonstrated superb versatility, rotating in and out of positions with a positive attitude. Despite the score, the girls continued to show determination, enthusiasm and encouragement to one another throughout the match. Well done everyone!
U10A Haileybury Tournament
A great result for Edge Grove who finished 3rd in the tournament out of 12 teams. The girls worked tirelessly during their 6 matches with a mixture of wins, losses and one draw, but coming 2nd in the group and gaining a place in the Cup playoffs, with the eventual winners stating that Edge Grove were their toughest competition of the tournament. It was extremely pleasing to see plays that had been worked on in practice being played out in the tournament. Special mention goes to Phoebe for her energetic and effective play and to Lacey and Annabel for fantastic shooting all afternoon. Great teamwork from all the girls involved. Well done!
U10B v Chesham Prep Edge Grove 4 Chesham Prep 3
The U10B team took part in a very energetic tournament with Chesham Prep on Wednesday afternoon. Edge Grove won two games and lost one with a final win of 4-3. Great shooting from Esme and Cathy with excellent movement around the court from the rest of the team to move the ball efficiently down to our attacking third.
U10C
The U10C team also took part in a round robin tournament at Chesham Prep on a very sunny Wednesday afternoon. The girls showcased the progress they have made over the course of the season passing up and down the court very well. Kushi showed of her shooting skills with a lovely goal and Sienna and Jannah showed determination across the court. Ellie S appeared to have springs in her feet, as she made many interceptions to win the ball from the opposition!
U8 Triangular v Beechwood Park and Heath Mount
The U8 girls had an excellent afternoon at their triangular tournament against Beechwood Park and Heath Mount in the gorgeous sunshine. Edge Grove stood out against the two schools with their superb netball ability, winning a high number of matches. The girls played with confidence in their teams, passing and moving the ball into space and demonstrating some excellent and accurate shooting! Edge Grove were extremely impressive in defence, timing their interceptions perfectly to gain possession of the ball.
U9 v Beechwood Park and Kingshott U9A A fun afternoon of netball against two of our regular rivals saw the girls work hard against tough competition in the spring-like sunshine. Although they did not play their smoothest netball they showed energy and enthusiasm and improved in efficiency throughout the afternoon. When the girls moved into space, passing flowed and this enabled us to have increased shots on goal. When not in possession of the ball the girls need to mark tightly and keep moving so as to be able to get into space quickly when it arises.
U9B The girls produced some great results against Beechwood Park and Heath Mount. It was a joy to watch them move up and down the court with accurate passing, moving into space and fantastic catching. Each and every one of them played a solid and reliable game resulting in most of the possession and several successful shots at goal! A high scoring afternoon for this team who remained unbeaten on the day. Well done girls.
U9C, C1 & D A great afternoon of netball was had by all of the U8 netballers on Thursday afternoon in the sunshine. With good movement on court from all of the players they were very enjoyable matches to watch and umpire. Great passes were seen from Elise and Julia and great defending from Sienna and Alexa. With a mixture of shooters the girls have shown great progression from the beginning of the season and I look forward to watching how they develop their skills further during the rest of the season. The C and D teams won 2 matches and the C1 team won 3 matches out of 4.
