Music, Drama, Art
Drama It has been great to have all the children back and teaching drama face to face in the theatre! The children were most excited that they have been able to play some of their favourite settling in games like SPLATT and I Have Bad News albeit at a social distance! Year 5 have started this week writing monologues from an inanimate objects point of view and Year 6 have started their Superhero unit and have begun to create their own superheroes. Year 7 & 8 electives have started to learn about films and how they are created and written.
Music The Music department had such a fantastic atmosphere on Wednesday! Music was all around us, and Year 5 pupils were having a fantastic time learning all about music elements! They learnt all about the ‘ingredients’ of music and were detectives and had to match the actions with the musical elements. The Year 6 pupils have started their ‘Film Music’ scheme of work and began by listening to a variety of different film music to better understand how a composer achieves both different moods in a piece and how different styles of film require different musical ideas. They will be putting this into practise over the next few lessons by starting to compose their own music for different films. Year 7 and 8 had an excellent lesson all about their topic this term which is Gamelan. They learnt about the culture of Gamelan, where it originated and what the instruments are called. They have started learning an 8 note cycle pattern song that was written for a wedding ceremony. Dampening, improvising, playing as a team and learning the note pattern were all skills learnt in this lesson. Well done all! Art The first lesson of every term is dedicated to an art assessment. Normally in the Autumn term the children do an observational drawing of a shoe, looking at form and tone. In the Spring term the children complete a self portrait and in the Summer term they do a colour blending exercise. This is repeated year on year and so a comparison can be made looking at how these baseline line skills have developed. Because we were in lockdown last term the children missed their Summer assessment and so are completing their colour blending task this week. They were reminded of the correct pencil holding technique for colouring/shading and shown how to blend. Here are some results! They look fantastic. Well done!
