Welcome back Middle School! We could not be happier to see our pupils return to school, refreshed and ready for the term. It is amazing how some of the pupils have grown so tall in 6 months and if they are anything like my own children, grown right out of their uniform and shoes! I would like to say a special hello to our new starters in both Year 5 and 6 - it is wonderful to welcome you into the Edge Grove community.
The children are slowly but surely adjusting to our ‘new normal’ in school. With fewer pupil transitions taking place, it has been somewhat easier for the Year 5 pupils especially. I think the Year 6 pupils are also enjoying the new routines as they can now be sure to arrive at lessons punctually and with all the right equipment with them too!
It has been lovely to see all of the children enthusiastically taking the beginning of term in their stride, despite the unusual circumstances. This week, they have been getting to know their new classes and teachers and learning their new routines. A huge focus has been on developing their organisational skills and independence. What a lovely start to the school year!
In the classroom, it has been a pleasure to welcome the Year 5 pupils to Geography this week for the first time. We are starting our learning by exploring what Geography is and linking it back to prior learning. The children will be exploring their own environments to identify different types of Geography. There are some useful maps at the back of the children’s planners that they might find useful when we start exploring our ‘place’ in the world.
We have also enjoyed seeing the Year 6 children back in class this week. Our first topic is tourism and now that we have an additional lesson each week they have a very important task to complete via Google Classroom; to write a travel guide. The details are on their classroom and although we will work on this together they are very welcome to use some home learning time should they want to.
