1st Team v Orley Farm Edge Grove 3 Orley Farm 3 The game started full of pace and enthusiasm and Edge Grove were certainly the stronger team. We kept possession of the ball well through good passing and some pieces of individual skill and dominated the opening 10 minutes of the half. Unfortunately there was some reticence to shoot until players had beaten every single defender and were in the 6 yard box; this meant that we did not capitalise on the earlier possession. Against the run of play, with their first chance on goal Orley Farm opened the scoring. Nefe showed some excellent ball control to beat a number of players and fire the ball low into the corner to level the match. Orley Farm took the lead again through their second chance of the match and Nefe again levelled. Nefe scored his hat-trick in the second half to take the lead. We held onto the lead until the final couple of minutes when an unmarked player on the back post scored a header from a corner. We were lucky not to lose when in the final seconds Orley Farm pushed a shot wide with only the keeper to beat. A draw was a fair result but the boys know they could have won it many times over. 2nd Team Edge Grove 0 Orley Farm 4
A very challenging match saw the team reeling under a speedy, skilful attack by Orley Farm. Some excellent play was evident but unfortunately the co-ordination of individual efforts was not often accomplished. Luke, James, Thomas, Lir and Thomas all played brilliantly at times. Ediz was great at distributing the ball. The backs played well and man of the match was Nathan, who was solid in defence. Henry saved many potential goals and was under pressure for most of the game. The team did fairly well to limit the score to 4 - 0.
3rd/4th Team Edge Grove 1 Orley Farm 3 The final score is by no means representative of the effort that the teams put into the match. They fought incredibly hard throughout and Orley Farm had to work for every goal. The goals conceded were due to unfortunate errors in defence including a handball. The entire team were impressive with Jack putting a great goal past the Orley Farm keeper. Stand out performances from Sophie, Ami, Caitlin, Mali and Emilia who never gave up at any point in the game and harried the opposition’s defence throughout the match. Daniel was everywhere making threatening runs through the Orley Farm midfield and defence at critical moments. Hayden made some spectacular and important saves and we saw some very good play from Evan, Kavish, Henry, Joseph and Aarav. Despite there being points to work on for the next match the team provided a thrilling game. Well done to all! 5th/6th Team Edge Grove 1 v Orley Farm 0 There were two very well-matched games on Wednesday with Edge Grove winning both matches 1-0 thanks to a solo goal from Theo and a close range effort from Arjun. Everyone played their part in the victories showing both effort and increasing skill. Colts A Edge Grove 2 Orley Farm 0
Another dominant performance from the boys. We controlled the ball throughout the game and our passing between the defence and midfield was accurate and allowed us to get into the attacking third of the pitch quickly to create many chances. Our second goal is certainly a contender for the goal of the season with perfect one touch football up the left side of the pitch to secure a tap in goal. Another great team performance.
Colts B Edge Grove 7 Orley Farm 1
Another fantastic victory for Edge Grove who scored 7 fabulous goals. The team worked well together, skillfully passing the ball utilising the space on the pitch. Orley Farm tried to score a number of times but our excellent defence made this a challenge. Well played everybody.
Colts C Edge Grove 2 Orley Farm 2
Edge Grove were undefeated once again this week, but could not quite find the goal to claim the win. The boys showed great teamwork to move the ball into space when in possession of the ball, and worked hard to win the ball when we lost possession. Both teams created plenty of chances and the final score reflected a even match.
Colts D Edge Grove 2 Orley Farm 1 Edge Grove learnt from their match last week and started with high intensity which caught Orley Farm off guard. Great passing from Zak M and Alfie L on the wings created numerous chances for Funwa M and Karsten A, who both managed to score well worked goals before half time. With Alex G leaving at half time after making some impressive saves Emin D stepped into goal and continued to hold the EG goal, but unfortunately could not keep out one goal in the second half after some pressure from OF which resulted in an own goal. However OF only managed to get 1 goal due to the fantastic defence of Phoebe B, who would not let their attackers have any space. Natty T managed to control the game from the middle and with some great teamwork EG managed to hold on for the win.
Colts E Edge Grove 9 Orley Farm 1
Edge Grove started the match brightly playing 8 a-side v Orley Farm. Our line up was a 2-4-1 with Arav in goal, Robert and Fewa in defence; midfield was Harry and Aayan with James playing on the left wing and Joseph starting on the right wing. Imeth started up front. As the game progressed the players became more fluid in regards to their positions and pressed Orley farm before counter attacking at will. Joseph was a constant threat both in attack and defence. Stripping the opposition relentlessly and counter attacking quickly. Harry was solid in his tackling and consistently dribbled effortlessly past the Orley Farm players before distributing accurately. Fewa was phenomenal, reading their attacks like a children’s story and then counter-attacking quickly. He was rewarded with a hat trick from defence, taking his chances with aplomb. Arav didn't have many saves to make but did well when called upon. Imeth consistently made intelligent runs in behind the defensive line and was instrumental in most of our attacks. Aayan was strong and clever with his passing and distribution and found himself on the score sheet several times. His corner kicks were powerful and accurate. Robert was the rock of our defence and dealt with the Orley Farm attacks safely and effectively; clearing the ball accurately and powerfully and setting up counter-attacks up the line. He was also rewarded with a fine goal in the second half. James was excellent in defence and attack and unselfishly set up several goals with pin point accurate crosses. It was a strong team performance and unfortunately Orley Farm scored a fortuitous goal with the last kick of the match. Well done boys!!!
Colts F Edge Grove 6 Orley Farm 0 The Colts F played a great game of Football on Wednesday with Samuel as their Captain he made some great saves in defence and cleared the ball out to the wings. Artem scored the first goal and then a further two after half time and Harry scored the other two goals. Tio made some great tackles to help to move the ball up to our attacking half. A great effort from the whole team and a great final score after a tough game last week.
Colt G Edge Grove 4 Orley Farm 5 Edge Grove 14 Orley Farm 0
Both schools had big squads so we played two separate matches. We split our teams into two equal teams which meant we had one very close match and one match in which our strength in depth shone through. All the boys played excellent football and it was pleasing to see the team work and determination by all on display. We had numerous goal scorers with Arjan, Aditya, Oliver F, Oliver G, Nico, Jesse, Harry B and Ben all scoring goals. Well done to all involved.
U9 Mr Davies This was an unusual format; playing 5 a side on astro pitches at Cotlandswick Leisure centre. The team played superbly and it was a joy to see the linking play between Noham and Max in particular. These two were playing some sublime passing football to carve holes in the defence. There were goals by many of the team and Isaac played incredibly strongly in goal to ensure he kept a clean sheet. All of the team performed really well and are playing some excellent football. Edge Grove won.
U9 Mr Maranzana St Columba’s 1 Edge Grove 8
Although an unfamiliar format to our team when playing for Edge Grove, the 5-a-side game played against St Columba’s was nothing short of a triumph. The team dominated from the start with strong pressure exerted on the opposition throughout the match. This resulted in hat tricks for Benji and Logan as well as two thoroughly deserved goals for Taylor. Aiden, Wucheng, Marcus and Xander all worked hard to both support and push forward when needed to counter attack to great effect. Well done to all!
U9 Miss Turner Edge Grove 9 St Columba's 2
Edge Grove had a fantastic match against St Columbus. Bolu scored a spectacular 6 goals against the opposition whilst Eashan scored a fantastic hat trick in order to secure Edge Grove’s victory. U9 Miss Harding Edge Grove 7 St Columba's 0 Edge Grove had a fantastic victory with Armaan, Ishan and Shay scoring a total of 7 brilliant goals. Blake and Thomas worked hard to defend our goal. The team maintained their energy throughout the match using the space to pass the ball.
U9 Mr Wagstaff Edge Grove 7 St Columba's 1
A change from our usual 7 a side matches this time playing 5 a side. This allowed us to have more space which meant accurate passing was crucial. A great team performance with all players getting back to defend and then attacking as a unit having many shots on goal and creating some great opportunities to score. Very well played to all.
U8 Mr Wallis Edge Grove 2 Westbrook Hay 2 The Year 3s played two 5 a side games against different Westbrook Hay teams this week. The first match was a tale of 2 halves. Edge Grove started very strong with some solid tackles and good passing into space which resulted in a deserved 2 - 0 at half time. After falling asleep at the 2nd half kick off to concede we never really got back to our best and with the score 2 - 2 as time finished Westbrook Hay won a penalty. However Oliver M stepped up and made a brilliant save to confirm a deserved draw.
Edge Grove 4 - 0 Westbrook Hay
After winning against the other WH team the boys brought the intensity into their second game and never let up. We made sure to keep possession throughout and tire the opposition by moving the ball into space. Once we were in the space Edge Grove made sure to shoot powerfully into the corners which gave the goalkeeper no chance. When we lost possession the boys worked well as a team to get back and win possession back.
U8 (Pig Sty) Mrs Massey Edge Grove 7 Westbrook Hay 2 Scorers: Nathaniel H x 1, Atlas x 2, Freddie B x 3, Freddie L x 1 The Year 3s played two 5-a-side games against different Westbrook Hay teams this week. It was an exciting first half and the boys played well getting into spaces and getting to the ball before the other team. John made some good saves with excellent support from Freddie B who also scored a hattrick with a particularly impressive second goal. At half time we discussed passing the ball more in the opposition's half. The boys took this on board resulting in an impressive 7-2 win.
Edge Grove 2 - 2 Westbrook Hay
This was a very even game from the start with both teams working hard. The boys spaced themselves out and made some excellent challenges for the ball. Ishaq performed some great saves in the first half and it was pleasing to see the boys looking up and passing the ball. In the second half, Oliver was in goal and he saved many goals ending in a 2-2 draw.
U8 (Paddock)
We had 4 teams playing two matches each against Westbrook Hay. The boys played some excellent football and it was very pleasing to see them trying to put into practice the work we have done at training sessions. There is obviously a long way to go but there were some good periods where the boys stayed in their positions and passed the ball well. When we did this we scored some very good goals and all involved can be proud of their efforts. In the 8 matches we managed to win 5, draw 1 and lose just 2.
U10A v Orley Farm Edge Grove 2 Orley Farm 2
A very close game for the U10A team, with both teams showing strength and determination throughout. Edge Grove took a 1-0 lead, with an outstanding goal from Zuriela. Orley Farm fought back with many attempts at goal, however, Cathy and Annabel made it very difficult for the opposition to score. The girls showed confidence in their ability to utilise the space on the wings to widen their play. However, at times, Edge Grove became cramped in attack, which affected many scoring opportunities. Therefore, the girls will continue to focus on spatial awareness in their Games lessons. An excellent team effort from all girls, with a noticeably strong performance from Zuriela, who had her game of the season so far!
U10B v Orley Farm Edge Grove 8 Orley Farm 0 A fantastic team effort against Orley Farm this week. The girls held their positions well, moved into space and passed effectively between each other all game. Kushi provided solid defence along with Ellie and the pair covered the D well, distributing the ball out wide every time. Excellent coverage of the pitch by the mid field players ensured the ball travelled from defense to attack smoothly and our attackers were hungry for goals, resulting in 8 scored by Edge Grove, most certainly the stronger team on the day. U10C v Orley Farm Edge Grove 2 Orley Farm 2 The U10C team enjoyed a fantastic game against Orley farm. With a final score of 2-2 the girls left on the bus home with a real sense of achievement and progress. During the course of the game they listened well to the tips and advice of their umpire and their game play improved dramatically from beginning to end. Jannah played determinedly and enthusiastically and Evie demonstrated her excellent stick skill at right midfield. Sienna, Esme and Devika were reliable and strong in defence. Well done everyone who played! U11A v Orley Farm Edge Grove 5 Orley Farm 2
The U11 A team came together and showed a fantastic team performance against Orley Farm this week. It was a very exciting game to watch with Edge Grove playing with a very attacking style, with multiple shots throughout the game. A special mention goes out to Lily-rose who either scored or assisted on the majority of goals throughout the match. And Natasha who put up a nearly impenetrable line of defence in goal, kicking away many shots. A great performance - well done!
U11B v Orley Farm Edge Grove 0 Orley Farm 1 The under 11 B team were up against a well drilled, very large squad from Orley Farm this week. They put up a great fight in the first half, with the score at 0-0 however were unlucky to concede one goal in the second. Maria A had a fantastic game in defence and attack and is well deserving of a special mention this week. U11C v Orley Farm Edge Grove 3 Orley Farm 4 It was an unusual game of hockey for the C team this week as our numbers were made up with players from Orley Farm. The game was very evenly matched with the result after the first half being 3-0 to Edge Grove. Bella and Farah led the attack well, having the ball in their possession for the majority of the game. Orley Farm quickly caught up in the second half of the match with their attacking players sneaking in goals past our defence. A special mention to Joanna C who managed to defend several goal attempts made my Orley Farm.
U8A v Orley Farm Edge Grove 2 Orley Farm 0 The girls came out determined to win and maintained this determination throughout the match. Their opponents put up a good fight but Edge Grove were the stronger team. With a goal scored in each half Edge Grove demonstrated skillful passing and excellent defending. The score was pleasing and the girls came off the pitch with smiles all round. With stronger shots on goal the scoreline would have been wider. Something to focus on in next weeks game! U8B v Orley Farm Edge Grove 2 Orley Farm 0 The girls played well as a team and made good use of the entire pitch. They defended well and put in some brave tackles which meant Edge Grove had possession most of the game. The girls also took full advantage of having no goalie; dispersing the opposition's defense and scoring when they had the opportunity. A well deserved score and a real boost for the team who are making great progress each week.
U8C v Orley Farm Edge Grove 5 Orley Farm 0
U8D v Orley Farm Edge Grove 5 Orley Farm 0
I was so pleased to see the enthusiasm of the girls this week, especially as it was a rather unusual game! Orley Farm were one down, so a few of the girls gamely volunteered to swap in and become a member of the opposition. This certainly did not dampen their spirits and Edge Grove were able to hold on to possession of the ball for the majority of the game, thus leading towards their well-deserved final score. A very special mention must be made for Naya who managed to score a hat-trick and should feel proud of her achievement. Honor and Robyn also helped to lead us to victory with some superb goals, and Abbie and Ioni were excellent defensive players.
