U11 Basketball vs St Martin’sEdge Grove 10 St Martin’s 11
Edge Grove travelled to St Martin’s for what was the first basketball match for many of the pupils. The match provided a great learning opportunity against a strong opposition. St Martin’s were a well organised team, moving the ball around the court well and applying pressure on Edge Grove when we had possession. As a result EG had to dig deep when defending and struggled to create early opportunities in attack. St Martin's built an early lead by taking a couple of chances, but Edge Grove’s energy never wavered and as our confidence grew we started to score from some of our own chances. By the end of the third quarter and throughout the fourth our intense defence was creating more and more counter-attack opportunities. The slow start meant that time was ultimately against us, despite scoring three unanswered baskets (2 points each) before the final whistle. A fantastic effort in our first fixture, with plenty of positives to take away.
U10A v Lockers Park
The boys played against Lockers Park in a start of term training game and it was a very useful afternoon for both teams. The Edge Grove team was more experienced as we have played more rugby this year and this showed in the tackle situation as we were very strong on defence. All the boys played extremely well and we will hopefully continue this progress as the season progresses.
U10B v Lockers Park
The Year 5s hosted Lockers Park in what started as an overcast afternoon and finished with some very wet pupils. Energy and spirit levels remained high throughout the afternoon despite the weather, with some enjoyable rugby on display. Due to Lockers Park having just started rugby we played touch rugby, which gave Edge Grove the opportunity to work on their passing, movement into space and defensive structure.
U10 Training Tournament v North London Collegiate
The Year 5s travelled to North London Collegiate school this week and played a rotational tournament. We mixed the pupils into three level teams and played against their mixed teams. It was great to see the pupils improve their knowledge of the rules and have fun whilst doing so. Their foot work improved during the game and they were making far less mistakes at the end. Next week we are going to work on our positional play, making sure we stick with our players and moving into space to get free.
A shout out this week goes to the Edge Grove Red mixed team who won the tournament. This consisted of: Zara, Kavya, Taylor, Sienna P, Miriam and Shay.
U11A v Manor Lodge and York House
Despite the wet and cold weather conditions, the girls had an excellent afternoon of netball. Edge Grove played excellently in their first match against York House, winning 5-2. The girls showed brilliant attacking movement down and around the court, providing more than one option for one another. Edge Grove made some great interceptions, in turn, making it hard for the opposition. The girls missed a few shooting opportunities, but gained confidence as the game progressed.
Unfortunately, the weather began to get worse, so the girls didn’t finish their match against Manor Lodge. This was a very close game, with the ball continuously going back and forth. Edge Grove struggled to maintain possession and get in front of their taller opposition. We will continue to work on driving onto the ball.
U11B v York House Edge Grove 8 York House 0
Edge Grove started strong and remained on top for the entire game. Excellent shooting from the whole team ensured a high score in a short game, and tight defending made it hard for York House to score. A very impressive performance from the team at this early stage in the term and a brilliant attitude from all the girls who faced playing in extremely cold and wet conditions.
U11B v Manor Lodge Edge Grove 1 Manor Lodge 0
A great start against Manor Lodge as the rain started to come down hard. With tight marking and some fantastic dodging Edge Grove maintained possession for most of the first half. Unfortunately we were defeated by the weather which made playing conditions dangerous but a strong performance in our first match of the season.
U11 C/D v Manor Lodge and York House
A great afternoon of netball was had by all of the U11 C/D teams. With a variety of indoor and outdoor games the girls showed perseverance whilst playing netball in treacherous weather. For their first netball games of the season they demonstrated a high level of collaborative teamwork. We look forward to following the progression of these two teams throughout the season.
