Music Harry in Year 8 has entered an external competition from Oakham school where he has to compose and perform his own Christmas Carol. He has written the lyrics, tune and harmony all by himself! Congratulations Harry and good luck for the competition! Please listen to the recording of the song here.
Sofia in Lower School has sent in a lovely performance on her cello this week. Some beautiful playing here, please watch.
Year 7 and 8 elective have composed their own 12 note row composition based on Shoenberg’s serialism theory. Their topic is the 20th Century and they are investigating all the different ways composers changed the rules during this time. There are some fantastic performances here, please watch!
Year 5 have been composing and performing pieces based on a cartoon film Wallace and Gromit this week. They have been experimenting using different musical elements to enhance the video. All the videos for this week can be viewed here (please note that you will need to be logged in using your child's Edge Grove email address and password).
Dylan S has been given a Blue Peter badge!!! To obtain the badge Dylan had to go through lots of things! Dylan completed a form where he had to describe how he enjoyed playing music (he described his piano lessons and how he had been part of the Year 2 showcase). He then spoke to his grandparents about the music they love and what it means to them and noted some memories which he then wrote about. The final part was to list some of his favourite songs and pieces of music - Enola Gay by OMD, Merry Xmas Everyone by Slade and Arioso in G by JS Bach to explain why he likes them. A huge congratulations to Dylan! And finally...Christmas is coming!
The Radlett winter light virtual switch on event will be happening this Sunday 22nd November and Edge Grove's Year 4 choir will be performing at it! We also have some fantastic pieces of art from the Upper School which will be presented as well! Please visit www.aldenham-pc.gov.uk to watch it!
Drama This week in drama the Year 7 & 8 elective group have been looking at movie marketing and in particularly film posters. They have been looking at different genres of films and how the posters of these genres have similarities such as the same colour palette used and the same fonts etc. Using this information they have decided on the genre their own films fit into and have begun to create their promotional poster.
The rotation group have learnt about the key features of slapstick comedy and have started to plan their own comical silent movies in their groups. Year 6 have been looking at a specific superhero and villain scene where they have had to come up with their own staging and understanding of the character. They then had to create the before and after scene. Year 5 have begun to script their own fairy tales. Some have written their own fairy tales whilst some have chosen to take a well known fairy tale and put their own twist on it. Once they have finished scripting they will rehearse their plays and show them to the rest of the class. Year 4 are busy in rehearsals and we have blocked all three of the plays. We are now focussing on the staging and how to deliver lines in character with confidence and ease.
Photography This week in Photography rotation the children were looking through their photographs that were taken last week and trying to work out the best photograph to use the colour selective tool on. Colour selective is where you make the photograph black and white and then pick out certain parts of the photograph to pop out in their original colour.
In Photography Elective this week the children were cropping a simple photo, looking at composition and the use of leading lines. They were all then put into pairs and critiqued their work, it was great to hear the children using the right terminology and present this to the rest of the class. Excellent work from all of the photographers this week.
