Pre-School have enjoyed a series of interactive group enquiry sessions exploring Diwali. This festival of lights marks the start of the Hindu new year and symbolises the hope of new beginnings; we send our best wishes to families who celebrated at home on Saturday.
Much of our work in class centered around Remembrance Day. Reception enjoyed learning about the life of Sir Tom Moore, from his career as a soldier to his fantastic fundraising efforts this year. They were fascinated to watch his investure as he was awarded a knighthood from the Queen. Year 1 showed empathy for soldiers who endured the WW1 trenches and wrote letters home to their loved ones, reducing poor Mrs Amankwah to tears with their words. Year 2 had so many questions for Magic Grandad and Nanny Margaret following their wartime memories video that they decided to write to them both with more questions; we look forward to hearing from them again and I would like to express how thankful we are for this ongoing learning opportunity.
We hear that letter writing is becoming a lost art but not in Year 2. Allan Ahlberg’s book The Jolly Postman has been enjoyed by many children since it was first published in 1986 and we were keen to explore it in class this week. The journey of a letter was also explained by postman Alan as we joined him during a working day in Berkhamsted and I hope that together we have inspired the children to revive this very special form of communication. Year 1 and 2 have been enjoying their outdoor Games lessons and have shown great skill in football; we are delighted to receive such positive feedback from the Games department each week. Well done all!
