U11 Basketball v St Martins St Martins 16 - 14 Edge Grove
The boys first ever basketball game for the school and it was certainly a fantastic performance which highlighted plenty of potential within the team. I thought on the way they would be more concerned about tactics than concentrating on their singing but I was proven wrong. However, once at St Martins they were all eager to start. Team spirit was high and we had a very competitive match with lots of encouragement and support to one another which was brilliant to see. It was a very close game with end to end action and plenty of shots coming close by hitting the hop and rebounding out. Dribbling the ball through players and using our bodies to protect it allowed us to break quickly. Good passing of the ball allowed us to get into space meaning we had more time on the ball for decision making creating opportunities for us to get into the position to have a shot at the basket. Boys, a really enjoyable afternoon and well done on the first game, you certainly played as a TEAM. Let's hope we can get back on the court soon.
U13 Basketball v Lochinver House Edge Grove 14 - Lochinver House 14
This was an excellent game of basketball and both teams must be commended for the excellent skills and spirit that were on display. Edge Grove took an early lead and were 10 - 6 up at half time due to taking advantage of their opportunities and continuously securing possession by winning the rebounds. Lochinver House came back strongly and were 14 - 11 in the lead with just a few minutes to go. The Edge Grove boys showed a real “never say die attitude” and did really well to close the deficit and were rewarded with what was a well earned draw which did reflect the balance of play. Well done to all the boys involved.
York House Year 3 and 4 Cross Country Run
After a successful Edge Grove Cross Country event before Christmas, this week was the first inter-school event of 2022. 10 boys and 10 girls from across years 3 and 4 went to York House to participate on what turned out to be a beautiful spring day, even if it was a very muddy run. The course was 1.3km around the school fields, with a range of British farm animals including pigs and donkeys dotted around the course to keep the children company. Both groups showed great determination and all finished within 1:30 minutes of each other. Zara was the fastest girl of the day (5:41 minutes) and Maya second fastest (5:57), with the rest of the Edge Grove girls following close behind meaning that we came first in the girls' group. Isaac came in with the quickest time of the Edge Grove boys at 5:32 minutes (7th overall), with the boys team finishing 3rd in their group. Fantastic effort from all the pupils on the day.
U9’s v Heatherton House
The girls thoroughly enjoyed their first match of the term against a well practised Heatherton House. It was a steep learning curve but they rose to the challenge and played with energy and enthusiasm. Despite not scoring any goals, the girls defended well and worked hard on moving into space around the court. We will be focusing on marking and positions in lessons before our next match. The girls were positive and polite and thoroughly enjoyed their huge slice of cake at the end of the match!
