Year 3 After a nice long weekend, the children have come back refreshed and ready to learn. On Monday, the focus was on number systems. In maths, the children learnt about Roman numerals where they cracked a code and then created their own. This was followed by a topic lesson on the Mayan number system. Impressively, the children used various items to represent the Mayan number system and the outcomes were amazing! In English, the focus has been on adverts. The children have learnt about persuasive techniques including rhetorical questions. In science, we have begun to look at vertebrates and invertebrates. When out on your daily walk, see if you can spot some together.
Year 4 The week started with great discussions about all the different ways that the children had celebrated VE day over the weekend. It was lovely to hear how they had been busy making bunting, singing, dancing and even baking. English lessons this week saw the children busy discussing David Walliam books. The children then produced book reviews discussing their favourite part of a David Walliams story. In maths lessons Year 4 were busy recapping their understanding of fractions. Can your child share with you some equivalent fractions? The children particularly enjoyed science lessons, performing their own investigations to observe water transportation in plants. They used food dye and celery to track how the water was transported to the leaves. Year 4 teachers enjoyed watching videos and seeing the drawings that the children sent in for topic lessons where they described the life of a page, squire or knight. Did you know that a boy would usually have to train for at least 14 years to become a knight?
