Praise and Positivity
The key to praise being encouraging is ensuring that the message is sincere, honest, specific, descriptive and, importantly, focusses on effort rather than the outcome – positive praise. Giving praise may seem easy, however there are a number of common pitfalls that can result in well intended words having little positive impact:

It may feel counter-intuitive to say that we should be grateful in times of difficulty, however psychologists have determined that cultivating a sense of appreciation, thankfulness or gratitude, even for the smallest of things, helps to reduce stress and can foster resilience.
Everyone has the ability to nurture a sense of gratitude. Frequently taking a few moments to count our blessings, focussing on what we have rather than what we have not, helps to develop gratitude and enhance life satisfaction. Regular practice can be an excellent technique to keep thoughts, emotions and worries in check by weakening negative thought patterns and stimulating the reward centre of the brain that supports positivity, which in turn aids mental strength and resilience.
