It has been brilliant to see everyone embracing learning at home with such enthusiasm. Today we had year 5 pupils testing solubility in their first science lesson and in the last week of term we had some great posters on Bandy (a type of hockey played on ice, similar to ice hockey) made by year 6. We were also very impressed with the circuit training routines produced by year 5 pupils and many pupils were completing different fitness exercises, like Joe Wicks and other videos on youtube. It was great to see all of the Middle School making a great effort to keep active throughout the week and over the holidays and we encourage you to look out for more challenges and activities in the weeks to come!
In English, in the last week of term year 5 finished their ‘Iron Man’ unit and made some fantastic, colourful posters to display the key scenes! They decorated their posters with their favourite quotations and had an excellent discussion on the book as a whole.
It has been lovely to see the artworks children have completed over the break. The fantastic liquorice all sorts artwork Nathan has done, using coloured pencils, is spectacular and will have taken many hours to complete. Resilience to stick at a project is a skill in itself and one that professional artists have to learn. Freddie's watercolour shows the different techniques he has explored and Kyan's 'relief' masks are brilliant! Well done all.
During these unusual times, the RS Department will be offering a number of extraordinary opportunities for the Edge Grove Family: Thought for the Day - Every day you’ll find a daily devotional meditation in Google Classroom (code:et6bioa in a classroom called Treasure Chest). It is aimed at all ages and those of all religions or none. This will include songs, readings, thoughts for the day, video clips, thought-provoking pictures and occasional poems or interesting news. The slideshow will include slides for pupils as well as adult-level content. The idea is to help us focus more on spiritual matters and lift our gaze above the material world and stresses at this time. All are invited to send comments or contributions to Mr. Dicks at ddicks@edgegrove.com or add a comment in Treasure Chest. RS lessons will include opportunities for writing inspiring poems, personal thoughts, experiences, songs, photographs or short stories. Some will be published in this newsletter so do add your contribution as a new slide in your current lesson module then submit your work. Finally, well done to Mia who has been helping on the "You donate we deliver" project delivering supplies to frontline staff fighting Covid-19. Fantastic work Mia!
