Music, Drama, Art
Music Year 7 and 8 have had a fantastic time playing Gamelan outside this week in the willow arbour. They have been learning a tune from Bali that was written for a wedding. They have learnt all about dampening, 8 note cycles, pentatonic scales, and the traditions and culture of the genre. Dan even led the group with the Indonesian drum!
Edge Grove's Upper School choir had their first socially distanced rehearsal. It was so lovely to hear these fantastic pupils singing again ready for the Harvest Festival and Remembrance Day performances.
The Jazz Collective had their first rehearsal this week. They are currently working towards the National Concert Band Festival (NCBF) Regionals which are going to be virtually adjudicated this year. They have also been given the privilege of being invited to the NCBF Nationals at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester in April 2021 so there are lots of fabulous challenges for the band this year!
Year 5 have been learning all about musical elements this week. They have been listening and analysing the piece ‘Mars’ from The Planets by Holst and reinventing their own version of it in their groups using all the musical elements.
Music and Drama rotation have been learning all about silent movies, how they worked, where they were performed and how music influenced the audiences feeling towards the characters. Their task this week was to use facial expressions to enhance their character and final video performances.
