Year 3 This week, Year 3 have enjoyed recapping their Year 2 learning in maths and English. They have written a description of a setting using adjectives and similes. We were very impressed with their writing skills. In science, we have looked at the difference between light sources and reflectors and have sorted items into each category. We even thought about some items which would be both. In topic, we have begun to explore the Stone Age. The children have amazed us with their historical questioning skills and ability to identify ways in which we learn about the past. Year 3 really enjoyed their assembly with Miss McDonald. See if your child can tell you what the most important quality Miss McDonald is looking for in her pupils.
A Stone Age fire with questions written by the children about what they would like to find out next.
Year 4 It has been an action packed week for Year 4 as they settle into the new school year. In English lessons the children have been looking at a variety of different poems and have been practising performing these in class before writing their own ones. In maths the children demonstrated a good understanding of place value, ordering and partitioning 4 digit numbers. We started our new history topic and the children impressed their teachers by sharing lots of facts about ‘The Romans’. In Science lessons the children were investigating different push and pull forces that they could spot around the lower school. Ask your child to identify the different forces they can spot around the home. The children of 4CT and 4TC voted this week for their new pupil council representatives. Congratulations to Oliver and Alfie! 4M will be voting for their representative next week.

Well done Maya!
Maya, her older brother (aged 10), her mum and dad have undertaken a fundraising challenge for Macmillan Cancer Research. Over the holidays they ran over 6km a day on 10 consecutive days alongside a few members of their karate team. The distance could be walked but they insisted on running for the challenge and over 10 days they completed nearly 65km. The family have managed to raise so far just over £890 for Macmillan cancer. Maya was very diligent with her running and she has been incredibly motivated. Even running in torrential rain on a few occasions (as you can see in the photo)!
Well done Keavy!
Keavy entered the Aldenham Creative Poem Competition last term with her poem titled ‘This Year’ and we are delighted to announce that she won the KS2 competition!! Fantastic work Keavy!
