Quiz Club National Year 6 General Knowledge Heats - All our Junior Ignite and new academic Ignite Fellows took part in what was a tremendously exciting live online event. We know from past experience that the standards of the schools taking part in Quiz Club is very high, and this was no exception with 44 teams from around 25 schools from around the country in our heat. The competition was fierce and after a few rounds our Team 3 (Henry, Zachary, Rohan and Evan) started to forge ahead. With six teams from the heat due to go into the National Final, and Team 3 in 3rd place, the excitement rose. Further heats came and went, with the tension rising as they did. Eventually Team 3 placed 14th, not quite high enough to make the finals but ahead of local rivals Habs Boys! Well done to them and to the other three teams (Dara, Nike, Ehije, Arthur, Noah, Zara, Honor, Niccolo, Eniola, Shrey, Hugh and Shay).
In Science, Year 5 have started their projects about space. They have free reign to choose a topic based in the universe to research and present in a creative way. We are very excited so see the finished products. Year 6 have been finding out about physical and chemical changes. They have explored water freezing and boiling when looking at physical changes. This photograph shows them exploring chemical changes by mixing sodium bicarbonate and vinegar together. They were able to describe the changes they observed.
In Drama, Year 5 were continuing learning about silent movies with a special focus this week on comic features of The Keystone Cops. Year 6 found out their casting and began rehearsals for Star Warts - it is already looking and sounding very intergalactic and exciting! Miss Saville is very impressed with how much we set in the first week. Drama Electives spent time devising and performed in groups scenes from The Adventures of Pinocchio incorporating styles and techniques from Commedia Dell’Arte to complete their unit. Well done to all Drama students.
In RS, pupils have shown excellent behaviours for learning as they investigated Jesus' seven 'I AM' claims from John's Gospel. They thought carefully about his claims such as ''I am the bread of life', and 'I am the shepherd' and had some fantastic discussions on their deeper meanings. Then, in groups, pupils summarised the seven claims in 8 boxes on A3 posters. The eighth box was left for each group to come up with their own claim for Jesus, and there were some wonderful suggestions such as Viaan's 'I am the galaxy' or Noah's 'I am everywhere'.
In English, Year 5 have been busy producing some informative newspaper articles. They investigated the techniques and language styles relevant to newspapers before producing their own eye-catching front pages. Here is Miss Senior's class exploring headlines and producing their own alliterative, snappy, pun filled ones as a warm up. Blake's 'LOCAL BOY GETS RICH QUICK' was voted the winner by his peers!
