U10 St Albans Festival Twelve Year 5s travelled to St Albans for the annual St Albans Cricket Festival with great excitement. We played three matches in the morning against Lochinver House, Westbrook Hay and Beechwood Park. Throughout these matches we demonstrated great effort in our bowling, with everyone taking a turn, as well as our fielding to limit the other schools to low scores. Although we struggled to hit high team scores when we batted we showed determination with our quick running and had some entertaining partnerships. After lunch six of our bowlers entered a bowling competition with great success and we finished the day with a 3rd/4th playoff match against Lochinver House. An enjoyable day for the pupils who were very grateful for all of the parental support throughout.
1st XI v Lockers Park Edge Grove 107 for 8 in 20 overs Lockers Park 90 All Out in 16.3 overs Edge Grove won by 17 runs
This was a really good team performance in an enjoyable game of cricket. We batted first and got off to a good start thanks to Kavish (32 runs) and Dev (20 runs). A flurry of wickets then saw us in a bit of trouble before a steady 17 runs from Albert saw us reach a par score of 107. Lockers Park got off to a flying start scoring 27 runs in the first 2 overs however Kavish came on to bowl and turned the match taking 6 wickets for 10 runs in 4 overs of quality bowling. Shay also bowled well taking 2 wickets and with Roman and Dev taking a wicket each we were able to bowl them out for 90 runs to win by 17 runs. Well done on a good batting and bowling performance however I hope that we can improve our fielding before the next match.
3rd XI v Lockers Park
The team played a hugely impressive and enjoyable game against Lockers Park. They won a tight fought contest. Our batters started slowly and we were struggling to make runs. Milo batted for most of the match allowing others to build a partnership with him. There were quite a few missed catches which helped to build confidence. Nathan batted superbly to score 46 not out and Henry came in for the final two and a half overs and scored an impressive 12 not out. Our bowling was consistently accurate and we kept their scoring to a minimum. Edge Grove scored 107 for 2 and Lockers Park scored 104 as their overs ran out.
Colts A v Lockers Park Edge Grove 90 Lockers Park 91
Edge Grove travelled to Hemel Cricket Club this week to play in some glorious weather against the same team we had played previously in the U11 cup. We knew their bowling strength and managed to weather the early onslaught with great patience. Runs would be needed to make the fixture competitive however; as we started to look at attacking we lost some quick wickets. Edge Grove managed to find their composure with Dylan K holding firm throughout, supported with some nice hitting from Ben R, James M and Kellan K. We posted 90 runs from our 20 overs. Despite our best efforts with our bowling, LP had some very strong batters with their opening pair both retiring around 30 runs and the next hitting some impressive shots to reach their target. A much better batting performance this week and we will keep looking to progress in our next fixtures.
Colts D v Lockers Park Edge Grove 295 Lockers Park 244 Edge Grove stood in to bat first in the sunshine at Lockers Park. With a number of 4’s and some great communication between pairs we ended our batting. It was then our time to field and with everyone rotating round we kept fresh and were ready to move towards the ball quickly and efficiently. Great play from Aiden and Kobi this week whilst fielding.
U11A v Chesham Prep Edge Grove 201 Chesham 266 Edge Grove had an enjoyable afternoon out at Chesham Prep, for some playing their first ever game of hard ball cricket. Edge Grove lost the toss and batted first. Opening batters of Lilyrose and Aria scored 7 runs. Chesham bowled well and took a number of wickets, this was not enough to put Ayo off who managed to score Edge Groves only 4 of the game. Chesham came into bat and again Ayo was the only player to get a wicket. Although Edge Grove bowled well it was not enough to beat Chesham who finished the over on 266. U11B v Chesham Prep Edge Grove 272 Chesham Prep 272 A very evenly matched game for the U11B team, scoring 172 runs each. Edge Grove started the game in the field. It was a slow start for the girls, bowling several wide balls. The girls need to focus on keeping their arm straight to gain accuracy when bowling, as they have a tendency to throw the ball. Edge Grove made a superb come back when batting, taking many boundaries. A special mention to the final batting pair, Georgina and Sofia C, for securing the draw by scoring a total of 16 runs! U10A v Chesham Prep It was a close fought game against a strong opposition. Edge Grove chose to field first and bowled impressively, giving away very few wides or no balls. However, excellent batting from our opponents, one pair in particular who batted twice, meant a high score for us to beat when it was our turn to bat. However it must be noted that, despite this high score we had to chase, our fielding was excellent and the girls should be very proud of their performance. They must now work on their batting and adding lots of power! U10B v Chesham Prep A wonderful afternoon of cricket. The girls showed off what they had learnt in lessons by bowling well and trying to run when possible during batting. It was a close fought game with Edge Grove winning by 15 runs. U9 v Chesham Prep Chesham Prep 255 Edge Grove 254
An extremely close game for our U9 team, losing out by 1 run! Edge Grove played with confidence, aiming to improve their performance as the game progressed. The girls began the match batting, where they held their own against Chesham’s excellent bowling. When receiving a wide or no ball, the girls were able to hit a ball off of a batting tee, where they secured numerous boundaries. When fielding, Edge Grove were reminded to stay alert, communicate and work together, preventing Chesham from scoring extra runs.
U9 Mrs Lloyd v Chesham Prep Chesham Prep 257 Edge Grove 233
The girls thoroughly enjoyed their game against Chesham Prep and their bowling was most impressive. The opposition failed to score in two of the overs. However, overall the opposition's batting was very strong and they hit the ball hard, and into space, therefore scoring several 4’s and 6’s. When receiving a wide or no ball, the girls were able to hit a ball off of a batting tee. Here, speed is of the essence and we took a little while to get used to this way of playing. A great performance from everyone. We put up a good fight but lost to a strong team of batters on the day.
Recognition goes to Roshini and Prithvika for stepping up to play for the Year 4 teams.
U8 Cricket
The girls played a fun game of cricket where there was no scoring. They enjoyed having an away match and all the experiences that come with it, travelling on the bus, playing on different pitches and match tea!
Lintman Archery Tournament on Saturday 21st May As usual the standard was high at the annual Lintman Archery tournament near Bagshot but the Edge Grove team of eight came away with five medals. Wearing the new archery team shirts for the first time, all eight scored over 400 points, a good achievement as most were taking part in their first event. Congratulations to Hayden (U14 3rd) as well as Evan (gold medal and 2nd overall in the Challenger category) with Izzy and Shona (both bronze) in their sections. Maggie, Louis, Harry B and Oliver F all shot well but were just outside the medals. After half term on June 18th we have our next competition at Chiltern Archery near Aylesbury. Well done all!
