Listening Skills - Nurturing Good Listeners
Listening is a vital skill, it enables us to pay attention to and effectively interpret what other people are saying. It is not something that comes easily to many children, especially at a young age. It takes time for children to learn to focus their attention and manage distractions in order to listen, but these skills can be learned and developed. Just about everything children do at school depends on their ability to listen, from sitting quietly in assembly to following their teacher’s instructions in the classroom, taking part in Games teams and engaging with friends. Teaching and modelling good listening benefits children in all aspects of life by helping them to ensure or improve their understanding and in turn their ability to communicate and engage with others effectively.
