The highlight of our week was our sponsored walk to raise funds for The Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice. Reception were joining us from their own gardens but in school, Pre-School got the event off to a great start with a walk around Aldenham Village green. We kicked through piles of autumn leaves and only stopped for a well-earned treat when we had reached our 2km target. It was more of a yomp for Year 1 and 2 as we walked 4km in our wellies around the perimeter of the school site next to turnip fields. There happened to be a vegetable theme in Pre-School which centered around the book Oliver’s Vegetables by Vivien French and Alison Bartlett. The children learned all about the health benefits of eating vegetables and also made tally charts to record their favourites. As our thoughts also turned towards preparation for Christmas, I must confess that although I have tried many times I just don’t like sprouts! Reception explored their own day time and night time routines inspired by the book Peace at Last by Jill Murphy and they continue to investigate the brilliance and mystery of light and dark. Year 1 continue to research the life stories of famous people and this week Sir David Attenborough was under the spotlight. Our joy at being outdoors is well documented and year 2 immersed themselves in a challenge to build an interesting vehicle with whatever they could find in the woods during Forest School this week - did I spot Santa Claus’ sleigh?!
