Middle School
In Computing this week, year 5 have been working on their own websites using Google Sites. Pupils will be presenting their work to the class and peer-reviewing each other’s work. Year 6 are nearing the end of their games making project. They needed to create their own character and integrate it into their own game.
In DT, year 5 have been adding the finishing touches to their tangrams and analysing what they would like to work on next time. We are also looking at wooden ‘taxidermy’ as a possible topic for the future.
In English, year 6 have taken inspiration from the sinister themes of 'Clockwork' by designing their own menacing clockwork figures. They have got into pairs, and written a short story where their two figures meet in an eerie setting. Special mention to Zara and Fatemah who have produced a particularly unnerving introduction:
Once upon a time in a dark, hungry forest, stood the tree of limitless fruits. It grew wildly and peculiarly untamed, splattered with the blood of the fallen. Dark green vines twisted around this fabled tree. It bore fruits of all kinds: scarlet apples, juicy grapes of the deepest magenta, bright yellow crescent-shaped bananas and many more to tempt the unassuming stranger…
Year 6 geographers have had a slightly disturbed week due to play rehearsals however there is always time to squeeze in some geography so our lessons this week have been focused on our global locations knowledge. As mentioned in parents' evening to many, being able to identify where countries are on a map and understanding their location in relation to neighbouring countries/oceans/seas is a vital foundation to our geographical knowledge. The children have been identifying various human and physical features on maps of the British Isles and Europe with the hope they will then secure this knowledge and apply it to their work in geography and beyond. I would advise all pupils to spend time looking at maps, atlases, Google Earth etc so they are truly confident and secure in their knowledge.
In French, year 5 and year 6 pupils have been very busy with assessments and rehearsals this week; however they had a bit of fun revising numbers in French and playing a variety of games, including Bingo!
