In my assemblies this week I have focused on our Flourish Focus which is quite simply the word ‘Give’. In these strange times I am certain that we have all appraised what is really important to us and certainly the act of giving is particularly profound. Many of us are apart from loved ones and unable to give usual hugs and even our time, but we have found ways to send smiles and warm thoughts in lots of different ways. Miss Chaplin’s weekly visits to drop groceries at her grandma’s door is a fine example and I enjoy seeing videos of her little happy dance each time! A number of pupils have written cards and notes to friends and family and have also written to those they don’t know, who are working so bravely for our beloved NHS. There has been lots of feedback too on how families have adapted the idea of filling a bucket with kindness, not only by keeping on top of household chores but by filling the bucket with rewards to give back when an act of kindness is shared. I am enormously proud of how Pre Prep pupils have given their time to help various charities too, demonstrating that their thoughts are very much with those less fortunate than themselves. Parents have also given us the greatest gift, which is their commitment to working together to ensure that the children continue to learn and make progress as we navigate through our virtual school. Let’s take heart from all of the wonderful things that are being shared and experienced at this time and keep on giving in any way we can.
