Swimming Gala v Westbrook Hay
Edge Grove travelled with students from Years 3-8 to Westbrook Hay to find glorious sunshine waiting for us on our first Swimming Gala of the new term. With it being almost 2 years since many of the students had previously swum in a Gala it was great to see such positive attitudes and effort from all of the students throughout the afternoon, as well as students putting themselves forward to swim a wide range of different strokes. Edge Grove saw wins and near misses for many of the heats, with a high victory count particularly in the butterfly and many of the relays. Unfortunately Westbrook Hay finished the Gala as the overall points winner, but it was fantastic to see so many pupils swimming again and to have parents on the poolside cheering them on throughout.
IAPS Regional Tournament
On Saturday morning the 1st team travelled to Rokeby School to play in the IAPS regional football tournament. We were in a very tough pool and played some good football but were unfortunately out-muscled in our matches against much bigger and more physical opposition. We lost 2 - 0 to St Andrews Prep and then lost disappointingly to Arnold House 2 - 1, having led 1 - 0 with only 3 minutes to go. In our last match we had most of the possession but got caught out on the counter attack to lose and finish fourth in our pool.
We moved on to the Plate section of the tournament and won our quarter final convincingly 3 - 0 playing some excellent football. We unfortunately saved our worst performance for the plate semi-final to lose 1 - 0 to Brighton College, a team we really should have beaten. In our last game, the 3rd / 4th play-off in the Plate section we played an excellent match against Hoe Bridge, eventually winning 1 - 0 in extra time with a “golden goal”. The boys played very well in this tournament and should feel very proud of themselves.
Haileybury Football Festival 1st Team v Kingshott Edge Grove 0 Kingshott 3 The first game produced a good solid performance with passing and movement to open he space to create lots of chances to score. Well played everyone. 1st Team v Haileybury Edge Grove 0 Haileybury 2 The second game produced a greater challenge and at times we began to blame other people for our defensive frailties. This is one area we will work on the training ground before our next match. 1st Team v Westbrook Hay Edge Grove 0 Westbrook Hay 2 A very close encounter saw a spirited display from everyone and in the last two minutes we conceded two goals. Some work defensively to improve on but well played everyone.
1st Team v St Martins Edge Grove 5 St Martins 0
A good performance with lots of chances from our open play. Well played everyone and a very good day's work on the football field. Lots of positives to take away and areas to improve and work on in training.
2nd Team Edge Grove 2 Haileybury 3 Edge Grove 1 Westbrook Hay 2 Edge Grove 2 St Martins 0 Edge Grove 1 Kingshott 1 The 2nd team played an excellent tournament at Haileybury school and achieved some excellent results. The boys enjoyed their games and once they had adjusted to the size of the goals began to create more scoring opportunities. There were plenty of positives including the way that the ball was passed into space and the range of different scorers. For next week they need to work on controlling the midfield in order to dominate possession in the game. 3rd Team Edge Grove 0 Kingshott 1 Edge Grove 2 Haileybury 0 Edge Grove 1 Westbrook Hay 0 Edge Grove 4 Kingshott 0 After a rusty start, the team pulled together and played some excellent football at times with some good passing. Well done all.
Colts B A well-rounded performance to continue the fine form shown in last week’s fixture. Edge Grove started with great intentions and opened the scoring early on, but had to practice patience at 1-0 for some time with some close misses and great saves from the St Martin’s keeper. The boys' patience paid off towards the end of the first half with the score 3-0 at the break. This week our fitness did not disappear in the second half due to the additional substitute, with some fantastic link play and clever finishing seeing Edge Grove finish 8-1 winners.
Colts C It was a joy to be with the Colts C team this week. The boys played a fantastic game of football. They encouraged each other constantly and were true sportsmen throughout. They thoroughly deserved their 9-1 win against St Martins. A hat-trick from Timi as well as 2 goals from David, 2 from Kaelen and 2 from Karsten including a superb individual goal where he passed 4 players on the way to scoring. Billy and Marli were brilliant both in goal and in the outfield. Noah, Artem and Rishi provided outstanding support play and assists to the goals. A brilliant effort by all!
Colts D The Colts D played an exceptional game of Football. With 2 goals from Jamie, 1 from Fewa and 1 from Zak we had a great 4-0 win. Along with our great attacking we also had Sam in defence and Alex made some great saves in goal. Great work to all of the boys and keep up the great work.
Colts E This was a much improved performance from the boys and the effort was great to see. Edge Grove passed the ball really well and scored three really good team goals. We unfortunately then started to tire and stopped passing however a real determined effort saw us home to a comfortable 7 - 2 win with goals from Chase, Tio, Ethan and Joseph. Well done on a good performance.
