This term, junior fellows have been designing (and creating!) their own planets. Pupils were required to think about the following:
▪ What will it look like? What colours will the surface be? Will there be lakes? Will there be forests? Will there be volcanoes? Will there be deserts?
▪ What temperature will your planet be? Do you prefer warm or cold weather?
▪ What type of star will the planet orbit? Will it be a small, dying star or a young bright star? What colour will the star be?
▪ How many moons will your planet have?
▪ Think about the size of your planet. Will it be large like Jupiter or small like Mercury?
▪ How strong will the gravity be? Remember, larger planets have stronger gravity.
▪ What will the atmosphere be made up of?
▪ What type of inhabitants will the planet have? How will they communicate? What will they eat/drink? What type of shelter will they live in?
The junior fellows did thorough research and formed a booklet with all their findings. They also created some amazing models as seen in the picture below.

This term the fellows have been challenged with researching and creating something which they feel Edge Grove is missing. Some ideas given were:
A machine of some sort?
A device that helps you in lessons?
Something to add to our landscape that you could use at break times?
A sculpture that matches our values?
A new building with a specific purpose?
Anything to make us more sustainable?
When setting this task I was purposefully ambiguous in order to see how they interpret this challenge and see their own unique take on what Edge Grove needs. Last week the students presented their models and ideas to Mr Stanley who is in the process of shortlisting for heads commendations. Below are some of the fantastic models created by our fellows. Well done to all involved! The Autumn II challenge will be announced at our next meeting on Wednesday 30th November.
