Year 3 Year 3 have been busy travelling back in time to the Stone Age. They have learnt that Stone Age people were not as simple as they may have first thought and have explored some of the tools and weapons they would have used. Having discovered Stone Age people made glue from tree resin and bees wax, the children were fascinated with how intricate the tools were especially as they were all made from natural materials. In science, they have continued to look at light and shadow and have explored the properties of materials using scientific vocabulary such as transparent and translucent. In English, we have focussed on grammar skills looking at expanded noun phrases, conjunctions and prepositions. We have continued to work on securing our place value in maths and have had a go at applying these skills in various ways.
Congratulations to all of the children who prepared a speech and bravely stood in front of their classes in an attempt to become pupil council representative. A special well done to Anaya, Isaac and Taylor who have all earned their place by being a risk taker.
Year 4 This week the children have transformed themselves into poets. They used their understanding of metaphors and similes to write their own nature inspired poems. In maths, the children continued to explore number and place value by identifying number patterns, completing missing number sequences and rounding increasingly large numbers. During topic lessons the children thought about what life would have been like for soldiers in the Roman army and then created their own recruitment posters to explore the reasons why Roman citizens should join up. In science lessons this week the children explored the effects of friction on a variety of different sporting activities, including the forces on a formula one racing car and a slalom skier. The children were stunned by the video footage of an unimaginable feat by Felix Baumgartner, an Austrian daredevil who skydived from space! There certainly were some forces acting upon him. Year 4 took advantage of the good weather at the start of the week by taking part in outdoor agility tests in P.E. How many star jumps can you do in 30 seconds?
A big thank you and well done to Lewis who gave an impromptu trombone performance in the Year 4 assembly!
