Year 3 Rugby Edge Grove A & B - Mr AitchisonEdge Grove B 1 Lockers Park A 1
A great game was played between two very even teams. 8 mins per half of fast paced and enjoyable rugby. Edge Grove scored first and Lockers Park equalised on the stroke of half time. We were focusing on the children keeping a defensive line and retreating after the tackle. Also we focused on being in a good position to support the ball runner to provide an option to pass. Tom made some great runs but failed to find support. Luke was very good defensively and passed the ball effectively. Tyler provided excellent cover defence and was well supported by Aiwa and Logan. Aiyush ran some excellent supporting runs to receive passes on attack. We had chances to win but in the end a draw was probably a fair result.
Edge Grove A 4 Lockers Park A 1
A great attacking display was showcased in our first competitive match. The boys supported each other well and were frantic in defence. Cooper made some excellent cover tackles and performed an outstanding spin move and went over for a great try. Tyler made several probing runs and found the support of Ted and Chris who made great supporting runs. Jack was excellent in defence and made a try saving tackle diving at full speed to prevent a try being scored. Ted was solid in defence and attack and opportunistically grabbed a loose ball to score our third try. Josh did well with his scrambling defence and linked well with the others. Tyler scored a couple of lovely tries finishing off a good passing move for our final try. Tommy was very quick making sure the opposition didn't get a way. Chasing tirelessly whenever needed the whole match. Aiyush again worked well in defence and on attack when he was on the pitch.

With the sun finally shining, the Year 3s welcomed Lockers Park for an afternoon of Rugby. Edge Grove had three teams that played a quadrangular festival, with each of the teams playing against Lockers Park whilst our other two teams practised against each other. It was lovely to see great enthusiasm from the pupils with good use of speed, passing and movement at times when attacking. Both teams were fantastic in defence which made for an enjoyable afternoon. Fingers crossed that the weather allows us to fulfil our future fixtures.

Finally the weather conditions permitted the boys the opportunity to play their very first contact rugby match. The game was played over three 10 minute periods. This provided the opportunity for all the players to play at least 2 periods. Edge Grove started the game on the front foot with Ishaq K making numerous thunderous runs up the centre field. As the game progressed Lockers Park committed three or four defenders to contain Ishaq allowing the rest of the Edge Grove players to play out wide. Oliver McC, Tommaso CT, Nathaniel H, Atlas D and Daniel G were dangerous on attack, collectively scoring nine tries in the game. Freddie B, Joshua C, John N, Nathaniel L and Cyrus S were outstanding in defence only conceding two tries from Lockers Park. A wonderful start to the season.
U9 - Mr McManus
The ground finally thawed and we were very much looking forward to our first rugby match of the season for Year 4. It was unfortunate that Lockers Park felt that their boys were not ready for a contact match however we did play a game of touch rugby. The boys grew in confidence as the match wore on, remembering to focus on the defence lines and putting pressure on the opposition. We ran in a number of tries with Henry W, Robert G, Aksh T, Elliott W and Rapahel P all working hard for the team and Monte M rounding off the scoring with the last try of the match. Well done to all the boys on a great performance.
U10A v Heath MountEdge Grove 6 Heath Mount 14A great game of netball from our Year 5 A team this week but we were up against a really strong and tall team from Heath Mount.
The A team is continually improving and there has been a big change in their ability to dodge and move forward for the ball. Next week we will focus upon our defending positioning.
A shout out this week has to go to Kavya who made many fantastic interceptions and Zara who’s positional play was vital to our ability to bring the ball down the court.
U10B v Heath Mount Edge Grove 4 Heath Mount 5A very close fought game against a well drilled Heath Mount team. The girls started confidently and soon realised they needed to maintain tight marking and accurate passing in order to win and retain the ball. Excellent driving into space from Chloe and brilliant ball handling from Deeksha in difficult conditions enabled us some early scoring opportunities which we converted. Heath Mount fought back and the match was extremely close. It could have gone either way but a last minute goal before the final whistle from Heath Mount resulted in a very narrow loss for us. The girls should be proud of their performance and take many positives away from playing against such a strong, and well practised, side.
U11A v Heath MountEdge Grove 2 Heath Mount 7
A very tough game for the girls this week against Heath Mount. They were a strong opposition, with a lot of height on their side. Edge Grove played extremely well as a team, staying positive throughout despite the loss. As the game progressed, the girls started to raise their game and made it tough for Heathmount. Unfortunately, the score didn’t go their way this week, but lots to learn from the game and things to take forward into future games.
U11B v Heath MountEdge Grove 5 Heath Mount 2
An outstanding game from the U11 B team, playing out of their skin from start to finish. It was an excellent team performance, with each pupil playing their part. The girls were moving the ball down the court confidently and quickly and turning every attacking play into goal scoring opportunities. Edge Grove adapted superbly to their new position each quarter. The girls also showed strength in defence, making countless interceptions and turnovers to gain possession. It was fantastic to see how the team really raised their game against a tough opposition. A performance Edge Grove should be extremely proud of.
U11C v Heath MountEdge Grove 1 Heath Mount 5
Edge Grove responded well to a tough side and showed positivity and enthusiasm. The girls showed great attacking movement, moving into space and creating lots of opportunities at goal. Edge Grove learnt a lot from this game and were able to reflect on their own performance. Tighter defence and accuracy in their passing were two skills the girls recognised as areas for improvement. Great sportsmanship from all the girls.
U11D v Heath MountEdge Grove 0 Heath Mount 4Another tough game with a strong opposition, however, Edge Grove remained positive and did not let their heads go down. Each week, the movement around the court is improving and the girls continue to progress each week. A special mention to Sienna D for some excellent interceptions throughout. The girls have recognised their area of improvement and will work on their passing and decision making, varying their passes depending on the distance they are throwing the ball.
U9 v Heath Mount
It was a wonderful afternoon of netball for our Year 4’s on Thursday afternoon. With tough opposition in Heath Mount the Edge Grove players worked tirelessly throughout the four quarters and with no substitutions it was a tiring, and fun, afternoon.
It was great to see the girls and boys demonstrate much of what they have learnt in lessons so far this term, yet also learn from playing against new opponents.
Heath Mount were always going to be a tough first fixture and the girls and boys should be proud of their performances. We look forward to a busy afternoon next Thursday in our quadrangular at Beechwood Park.
U8 v Heath Mount
The Year 3 girls loved playing in their first netball fixture of the season. All 4 of the teams showed great perseverance and determination against tough opponents. It was a great learning experience for the girls to see what a match scenario looks like. We are very proud of all of our netballers and look forward to future matches.
Year 3-8 Cross Country at Beechwood Park
On Friday pupils from Year 3-8 travelled to Beechwood Park for the annual Cross-Country competition which involved 16 other schools. It was a great opportunity for the pupils to experience such a massive event and they all did fantastic in their races. There were three races (Year 3-4, 5-6 and 7-8) and we had a number of pupils finishing in the top 10. The Year 3&4s did magnificently with the girls team coming 2nd overall and the boys team coming 3rd.
U13 Orley Farm Basketball tournament
On Saturday some of the Year 7&8s travelled to Harrow school for the annual Orley Farm basketball tournament. The day started with a tough match against the eventual winners (Orley Farm). However the boys bounced back from the initial setback and won 3 of the next 4 matches, with the only other loss coming from the other eventual finalist (St Martins). Throughout the morning they showed great determination and drive to overcome skillful opponents. They also demonstrated good tactical awareness, using quick passes and movement without the ball to find space on the court. An enjoyable morning and great promise shown for future fixtures.
