For the whole of Wednesday 25th January, the Year 3s had their Egyptian Day where they took part in many interesting activities whilst dressed up as different Egyptian characters.
Ms Lewis dressed up as an archaeologist whereas Miss Day and Miss T-C dressed up as Egyptian pharaohs. They enjoyed activities such as grinding Egyptian herbs to make a perfume, making clay necklaces, creating small clay pots and making many other traditional creations.
Towards the end of the day, the Egyptian Year 3s held a banquet, performed a story with dancers and actors and then enjoyed a feast of cheese, bread and fruit . At the end of the day, Aria S in Year 3 shared, “I enjoyed it because I liked the activities and the dancing and the banquet at the end. On a scale of 10, I would rate the day 10/10.”

Edge Grove pupils have been attending a few meetings about equality, diversity and inclusion. The aim of these meetings is to discuss ways in which we can make Edge Grove School a place where all pupils are treated equally and where we all feel that we are given the same rights and opportunities.
In these meetings, we discussed what equality actually means. We agreed that equality is about treating people the same. Some examples of how this can be done are by producing information in different formats for different pupils based on their needs, making sure that buildings have wheelchair access, making decisions without playing favourites, and not taking advantage of others.
Equality also includes not blaming others carelessly or unjustly, taking only one’s fair share, taking turns, sharing with others, celebrating different cultures and languages. In the meetings, we agreed that it is everyone’s responsibility to work together to create a supportive environment where all pupils feel equal and comfortable to express themselves and showcase their unique talents and abilities.
In order to create an environment that is diverse and inclusive, we must also be aware of the different perspectives and backgrounds of the pupils in the school. In our meetings, we discussed how this can be done. One good example was to ensure that our school meals reflect the different cultures and religions.
These meetings are still ongoing and we are actively discussing the different ways that we can ensure that equality, diversity and inclusivity are promoted in Edge Grove School.
