With December just around the corner, it is good to see more children arriving at school with warmer clothing on. The children are continuing to enjoy the lovely outdoor space Edge Grove offers and forest school remains a favourite part of many children's week. Mindfulness is now on a Monday morning which is a fantastic way to start the week and prepare for the learning ahead. On Friday, it was a joy to see five children being awarded their pen license for consistently writing in neat, cursive writing. The smiles stretched from ear-to-ear and this has also inspired other children to work hard on improving their handwriting.
Year 3 Year 3 have enjoyed their science topic this week and have been exploring how soil is formed. We read the story of Roger Rock who gradually became Simon Soil, the children wrote some excellent storyboards explaining the process. The stages were further explored through some drama activities in the hall. They had a wonderful assembly with Miss McDonald entitled ‘Aren’t we lucky’. Ask the children why we are so lucky.
Year 4 Excitement was rising in Year 4 as the children took part in technical and dress rehearsals ready for their big performance next week. The children continued their work in design technology on their noughts and crosses games, impressing their teachers with their woodwork skills. In English lessons the children continued to plan their own explanation text describing how their Wallace and Gromit inspired ‘Soccamatic’ machine would work. The children continued their work in maths on multiplication, solving tricky equations using the grid method. Ask your child to explain how they would solve 23 x 14. The competitive side of Year 4 came out on Thursday when the children took part in a mixed inter house hockey tournament. We all wait in anticipation to find out the final result. Mrs Green showed the children how to make their own natural Christmas tree decorations during forest school. Hopefully the children have used this to inspire their own natural creations for the house Christmas competition.
