Eco Update
Edge Grove pupils are well on their way towards the Eco Schools’ Green Flag status, with an active Eco Committee and a group of dedicated environmentalists. The Eco Committee have all received their Eco Badges and are planning their tasks for the term. Various year groups are focusing on Healthy Eating, by encouraging fruit eating; recycling through the Terracycle scheme and Waste Week; and finding ways to increase composting and compost use around school. Keep an eye out for more news from the Eco Committee on the Eco Schools’ website and The Pod - a website that provides environmental information for schools as well as eco games. If you have an 'eco' suggestion or have experience in the sector that you would like to share with the school please email us on aevans@edgegrove.com
Last weekend was the RSPB’s UK Big Garden Birdwatch and the Pre Prep got fully involved learning about birds and how to attract them to your garden. If you would like to know more and take action visit www.rspb.org.uk.
Recycled Products
I’m often asked what the plastic that we recycle is made into and where it can be bought. Much of what we recycle (including crisp packets and pet food pouches) are turned into plastic items that will be used for several years. This includes lumber for building projects and playgroups, benches, tables, plastic containers and plant pots. If you want to help close the recycling loop why not have a look at these products:
The Plastic Box Shop sells all sorts of recycled plastic containers to store anything from food to toys.
Kedel - Eco-friendly plastic products such picnic tables and benches
Smile Plastics - A materials design and manufacturing house that transforms waste materials into unique decorative panels for the architecture and design industry
