The topic theme of ‘Change’ weaves its way through the Reception curriculum this term and what better way to illustrate this than by making bread. From mixing dry ingredients to kneading a warm pillow of risen dough to finally biting in to a crispy roll, there is surely nothing quite as satisfying. The theme continues with an eagerly awaited, interactive workshop from Zoolab this week, who will illustrate animal lifecycles with some live visitors.
Throughout Pre Prep, our curriculum is brought to life by the rich range of books we share and use as teaching tools. We have planned learning objectives in mind of course as we use the books as a medium to explore these and refine skills, but it always fascinates me the way that the children pick up a thread in a story that we would never have otherwise found. We are looking forward to receiving new books for our libraries in Pre Prep and Pre-School carefully chosen for us by the school librarian; perhaps you will also get the pleasure of sharing some of them at home with your children.
In more active pursuits, year 1 were predicting how far they could shoot a paper cone from the top of an air filled container as they continue to explore forces in science and there were a few surprises and ruffled fringes along the way!
