Edge Grove A v Kingshott Edge Grove 239 Kingshott 231
This was an exciting first match and as you can see the score was very close. Edge Grove batted first and there were some excellent boundary hits from a few of our players. Our fielding was good but it took a little while to warm up in the first innings and move to the ball. This meant at the end of the innings Kingshott were leading. In the second innings our batters took more risks with their decisions which mostly paid off; although some wickets were given. Our fielding and bowling against Kingshott was strong and we communicated more which enabled 3 wickets in the final over. A great first match girls.
Edge Grove B v Kingshott Edge Grove 319 Kingshott 271
Edge Grove won the toss and chose to field first. A strong start, with excellent bowling from Darcey and keeping by India, meant a low scoring first two overs for our opponents. Captained by Summer, we remained alert and worked well together, backing up where necessary. Whilst our fielding skills were not truly tested and only one 4 was scored against us we bowled efficiently and special mention goes to Holly and Sophia for their tight wicket keeping.
Our turn to bat came and Edge Grove truly shone. The girls communicated well with their partners, went for every ball and made some fantastic runs. Tara and Zuriela scoring 28 runs in their 2 overs. The girls hunger to attack every ball, and wise decision making, most certainly won them the game. A fantastic start to the season, well done to all involved.
Edge Grove C v Kingshott Edge Grove 258 Kingshott 245
What an excellent start to the cricket season for our U10/11 C team. Edge Grove began the game batting which is always more challenging. However, they grew in confidence as the game progressed and the final pairs started to take some risks to gain some extra runs. Edge Grove were lucky with the number of wides and no balls given away by Kingshott, nevertheless, when given an accurate bowl, the girls demonstrated their ability to angle their shots around the field, particularly Ophelia Phillips-Bhan who scored two 4’s, well done! The girls will continue to work on their batting skills, particularly learning to move their feet to the ball. After a quick debrief where the girls were reminded to stay alert and show awareness in the field, the second half of the game was on its way. Edge Grove came out strong and definitely showed strength in their fielding skills, particularly their ability to bowl. The girls were ready at all times, moving quickly to the ball, confidently throwing the ball into the wicket keeper and bowler, as well as backing up one another. A special mention goes to Ren Presto for her outstanding bowling, finishing the final over with 4 dot balls, 1 wicket and only 1 run for the opposition. Well done to all the girls for a promising first game!

1st XI v Kingshott Edge Grove 158 for 2 in 20 overs (Kavish 93; Charlie P 22 not out) Kingshott 79 for 5 in 20 overs
This was an excellent start to the season with Edge Grove winning the toss and choosing to bat first. This turned out to be a wise decision with Charlie and Kavish putting on an opening partnership of 146 runs, the highest in the past 8 years at Edge Grove!! Kavish scored an amazing 93 runs off just 64 balls and Charlie was the anchor for the innings carrying his bat and staying in for the entire innings. All the boys then had an opportunity to bowl and we did an excellent job, keeping Kingshott under pressure with good accuracy and enthusiastic fielding. Shay, Nathan, Luke and Dev all took a wicket with Freddie taking an excellent catch and Kavish having a direct throw from mid off for a run out. Well done on a great first match.

Colts A v Kingshott Edge Grove 101 all out vs Kingshott 102 for 5 off 19.3 overs (20 over game)
We travelled with great excitement to Kingshott for the first fixture of the term and were put in to bat first. The start was a bit shaky as we were getting used to hardball cricket again but when Henry H came in to bat he showed great composure and patience to settle the nerves. With each new batsman giving Henry a useful partnership we managed to reach a score of 101 all out. Our bowling and fielding was very controlled and we kept Kingshott below the score rate for most of the game with some great fielding and a couple of fantastic catches. KS did keep the scoreboard ticking over however and as we got into the last couple of overs the pressure was very intense. A couple of big sixes and slight misfields meant that KS managed to reach the score with 3 balls to spare! A brilliant effort from EG in the first fixture of the year. We will look at staying calm and getting settled in when batting for future fixtures.
Colts B v Kingshott
The Colts B team played an excellent first match against Kingshott at Knebworth Park Cricket Club. We chose to bat first and managed to bat for the entire twenty overs only losing four wickets. For future matches we need to take a few risks with our batting in order to build a greater run total. We scored an excellent 85 not out. When we began our session in the field, our bowling was excellent. We bowled a very good line and as a result gave away very few extras to wides and no balls. We dropped a couple of catches which could have changed the result of the match but overall we fielded well. In the end we lost with three overs to spare. Colts C v Kingshott
The excitement for the first match of the cricket season was clear for the pupils in the Colts C, as they waited on the front lawn for Kingshott to arrive. After going into field first, Edge Grove put on a solid bowling display with wickets coming from Oliver Gray, Devan Gami, Ayaan Zaidi, Rohan Shah and Alfie Lass. A few too many wides contributed to putting Kingshott’s batting total at 103. The Edge Grove batting innings had some moments of excellence, Oliver Gray hitting a fantastic boundary. Davan Gami joined in, playing some great shots to push the run rate on. Unfortunately, the Kingshott bowlers came out on top and Edge Grove were bowled out for 95.
Colts D v Kingshott Edge Grove 60-2 beat Kingshott 37-3 (10 over match) The Colts D team started the season with a well deserved victory; batting first everyone contributed to achieving a competitive total with Artem and Ridley top scoring. In reply Kingshott were always behind the clock and with Aditya, Rishi and Ridley all taking a wicket the visitors fell short of their target.

U9 (Year 4) Mixed Cricket v Kingshott
An impressive afternoon of cricket from year 4 in their first matches of the term. Six teams played against Kingshott achieving high batting scores. The boys and girls bowled exceptionally well and batted with confidence, looking for the shortest boundary and trying to hit as many balls as possible. With tight fielding they worked hard, preventing the opposition from scoring lots of runs. A very enjoyable and pleasing first fixture of the summer term.
U8 (Year 3) Mixed Cricket v Kingshott
This was a fantastic first cricket match for the Edge Grove boys and girls and it was great to see our philosophy of co-educational sport on display with fully mixed teams playing against Kingshott. The children had an extremely enjoyable afternoon and were able to put the skills we have been practising on display for all to see. Well done to all involved.
