Pupils have been busy with all sorts of creative activities. Here are just a few of them...
Silas in Reception experimented this week making music using glasses and water. He produced a fantastic tune! Well done Silas!
Zara in year 5 is learning all about African drumming. She created a fantastic presentation on how to produce different sounds on a Djembe which is a type of African drum. You should be a news presenter Zara! Brilliant! She also made her own Djembe the week before.
Bryony in year 4 learnt all about the Clarinet this week and listened to the famous Rhapsody in Blue by Gershwin. Her challenge was to create a dance routine to symbolise how the mood of the music made her feel. As you can see, a fantastic performance!

In Art, year 1 have been looking at artworks created by American artist Bridget Beth Collins. Here are some highlights of fish that have been made by pupils following her art style.
As part of their topic work, year 3 have been learning about Aztec art. They have created sun symbols and here are a some examples of the beautifully, colouring designs they have done.
Year 4 are tackling the very tricky art form of recreating artworks using their laundry! This discipline has many artistic advantages because it teaches the children in a concrete kinaesthetic way to layer their art in terms of background, mid-ground and foreground. This is something that children often find challenging when painting. It also teaches them to see shape, line and colour separate from the actual form they are making. This is a crucial skill in developing observational skills. This week they have been recreating The Scream by Edward Munch.
Year 5 have been making visual autobiographies which have been lovely to see and has enabled me to get to know the children better. Here are a couple of examples to show the artworks they have been making.
Year 6 are learning about Pop Art this half term. They are developing their artworks using the theme of food. Here are a couple of pieces so far.
As part of the Creative Arts in the Upper School, the year 7 and 8s are consolidating their skills practising the elements of art. Last week they worked on 'line'. This week they have been focusing on 'tone'. Here are a couple of examples of their work.
In Drama this week, year 4 have been creating their own aliens. Next week they will be writing monologues about meeting their aliens.
This week as part of the Clown unit, year 5 are being asked to create their own clowns and dress up as one. Today 5ES were asked to dress up as clowns and introduce themselves. They had 20 minutes to find a costume etc. I was so impressed with the effort they put in when they came back on Google Meet.
Year 7 & 8 Elective drama have been working on a murder mystery. They have written monologues to introduce themselves, next week they will be acting them out in costume.
