The Sophia Zaveri Foundation
Following the tragic passing of Sophia in March, her family have set up The Sophia Zaveri Foundation. The Foundation will support three charities in Brazil to help impoverished children and families by providing them with food, shelter and opportunity. You can read more about these fantastic causes on the Foundation's Go Fund Me page here, where you can also leave a donation in Sophia's memory.
'You Donate We Deliver' This has been set up by an Edge Grove parent, Sarah Laster, and her friends to support NHS workers. They are delivering food and essential supplies to a number of hospitals and other NHS facilities. Currently they are delivering food to 13 hospitals, providing 900 meals per day; supplying snacks for ambulance staff; catering for staff in hospitals with no canteen facilities; helping to set up supermarkets at hospitals for staff who are unable to get to the shops; and assisting with catering for a local care home where staff are now living. This is just some of what they are doing. To find out more visit @youdonatewedel1 on Twitter or their Facebook page. If you would like to support them please contact them via Twitter or Facebook or donate here.
Mia and Tyler have also been helping out with the project. Well done both!
Virtual Rally Another fantastic fundraising initiative has been set up by an Edge Grove parent, Caroline Sander, to create the world’s longest virtual tennis rally! Find out more here and get involved! It would be great to get as many Edge Grove staff, parents and pupils involved and sharing their videos.
Shop Online and Raise Money
Amazon Smile works by making donations to your chosen charity every time you shop. It's a fantastic and easy way to raise money for charities close to your heart. Edge Grove is also registered so every time you shop you could be raising money for the school. Click here to find out more and register - in order for donations to happen you have to order through the Amazon Smile site, not the normal Amazon site.
Give as you Live is a similar initiative to Amazon Smile and we have been registered with them for a while now. We have raised over £1000 through Give as you Live and would love to see this grow. Click here to find out more. Here is also a reminder of what the school's charities have been up to...
School Charities Three of the charities that Edge Grove has been supporting this year have been in touch to say thank you for our support and to let us know about their current activities.
The Children’s Trust sent us their newsletter in which they thanked us for the funds we raised for them at the Christmas Fair. The efforts of the Year 7 and 8s meant that we were able to donate £1,000 for vital work with children with brain injuries. Since they can’t hold their usual fundraising events this summer they have sent us some virtual links and activities. The first was for Easter but I think you’ll agree it can be done at any time. Download the activity pack here.
Hertfordshire Community Foundation (HCF) has set up a coronavirus disaster relief fund appeal raising funds to support voluntary groups providing care and support for elderly and vulnerable people hit by the social and economic impact of the coronavirus. You can find out more and support the appeal here. Visit their Facebook page @Hertfordshirecommunityfoundation and hear the Foundation Director Helen Gray (also an Edge Grove parent) talk about the fund.
Mr McManus is still in training for the postponed London Marathon which he will be running for HCF. Please keep him motivated and on track with messages of support and if you can with a donation (if you haven’t already). Watford and Three Rivers Refugee Partnership (WTRRP) and the Watford Food Bank are continuing to provide food to families and the numbers needing help are growing. Members of staff and their families have been packing boxes and delivering food to those who can’t come to the foodbank. If you would like to help with this either now or in the future please contact Alex Evans. If you would like to make a donation you are welcome to leave food in the Pre Prep foyer and we will ensure that it is delivered. A list of the items most needed at the food bank can be found here.
Thank you to everyone who is doing so much to help in this crisis. From staying at home to setting up organisations – you are all doing your bit.
