Our Guiding Principles and Behaviours for Learning colour everything we do at Edge Grove and now the children’s understanding of these are brought in to sharp relief as they spend time with their families. Jude in year 2 led his family confidently off the beaten track on a forest walk recently, with a cry of “let’s be risk takers” the walk became a real adventure involving treading a path less worn and climbing trees. Creativity is also seen in abundance, as teachers marvel at the resourcefulness employed to complete tasks such as building a model lighthouse or a shape monster; independently in many cases. I mentioned discernment in one of my assemblies and this situation certainly tests that quality, as we all use wisdom to make judgements in unprecedented times. Global and Local Responsibility focuses our mind on the world around us and never has that been more significant. Is the sky really a deeper shade of blue due to a decrease in traffic, are there more butterflies in my garden or is it just that life is at a slower pace and we notice these things? Perhaps the Guiding Principle that is at the forefront of our lives at the moment is self-motivation. Without the usual structure of school and with parents juggling home, work and school, I have been enormously impressed with the way in which each day brings evidence of this is in action. I am lucky to be in the company of such aspirational and curious children too, as together we embark on another week of virtual learning together and look forward to the VE Day celebrations on Friday.
