Immediately, she ran over to a little child who was holding an empty ice cream cone, “oh you poor thing, let me get you another one!” and so Melli went over to the ice cream van and joined the queue. At long last, she was at the front and bought the little child another ice cream. “Don’t drop it this time!” she laughed, and went on her way. Next, she met an old lady at the crossing to a road, and, on instinct, took her arm and helped her across. “Thank you, young lady,” she said and Melli, satisfied, checked her watch. It was nearly nine o clock! Melli was aghast and sped up her pace. Fortunately, that did not deter her from helping a man find his car keys and telling a funny joke to a young couple to make them laugh. By this time, it was nine thirty already, but that didn’t stop Melli from running over to a lady loaded with shopping bags full of groceries and taking half the load all the way back to her house half an hour away.
By the time Melli got back, it was ten thirty! She gasped and sprinted the full mile to the happy building and burst in the door like a hurricane, running up to Reception and breathlessly announcing her arrival. She was taken to a room that, from the outside, sounded like a tribe of monkeys! Knocking nervously, she was led in and, to her surprise, shouting as if their lives depended on it, there were all the people she had helped! They all fell silent as she entered but then, the boss stood up and shook her hand saying, “well done, you got the job!”.
