What a week of learning it has been, in more than just one sense! Congratulations to all our pupils in the Upper School for successfully managing the second full week of CAPP. Your teachers continue to be impressed by your diligence, perseverance and curiosity. Keep up this fantastic spirit everybody! We also love hearing about your daily pursuits to keep moving and stay active - please do continue to share your pictures and videos. The Daily Flourish focus has been a very welcome and important addition to form time in each and every phase. The highlight of my week was definitely Motivational Monday’s focus on uplifting and inspirational quotations. The children selected some of their favourite ones to share and discuss. We look forward to exploring Monday’s ‘Big Dreams’ next week.
English Congratulations to year 7 who have completed some excellent persuasive speeches this week. With the support of Adobe Spark Video, the children created videos as a ‘Talk for Writing’ activity. On the theme of ‘global futures’ (also the Edge Grove Baccalaureate Conference theme for 2020) the pupils spoke very passionately about a range of topics including immigration, world hunger, deforestation, and unsurprisingly, the most current global concern, global pandemic Covid-19.
Maths In maths, year 7 have been continuing with the theme of algebra before moving onto percentages, both are key topics that appear on every exam paper but most importantly calculating percentages is a life skill. As the week progressed, the groups were able to calculate increases and decreases of percentages and will now all be able to calculate the new price of a set of trainers or a clothing item that has 30% off! Great effort year 7. French In French this week year 7 have been searching for their dream home. They were challenged to visit a real French estate agent’s website and search for the house of their dreams. They really enjoyed the challenge, but have expensive tastes and excellent negotiating skills - I was persuaded to up their virtual budget to dix millions d’euros!!!
Spanish In Spanish, year 8 have been learning how to describe themselves and others. Learning from home means that pets can join in the lesson. Whose pet is described here? ‘El gato es muy cariñoso. Tiene los ojos verdes y es blanco y gris.’ RS Year 7 were given a challenge! The task challenged them to examine the evidence for the resurrection and comment on its reliability. They could then also submit a creative response which was very open-ended. We love this creative piece from Chloe in 7KM titled 'Evidence of the Resurrection of Jesus'.
Year 8 are following the theme of Abundant Life. The first section looks at God’s expectation that mankind should be responsible for the care of creation. The theme of stewardship of our world’s resources flows into being responsible for making the most of who we are. This began with a look at Bible verses which describe how God views us. He knew us before we were born and knows the ideal plans He has for our lives if we choose to follow His ways. The following are responses to these verses and also an examination of the way Jesus used natural things like sowing seed to explain how people respond to the Good News of His Kingdom.
The kingdom of god is for all With god’s power we can grow tall We need to be good stewards of the land So let’s do it like God planned Look after all animals like our own Because by God we have been shown; He loves all of us equally so let’s be stewards eagerly! Buster, 8O God says I am the light in some people’s lives. I cheer them up when they are down and I make them more happy when they are happy. God sets everyone and everything out on a quest, mine is to help others and make others lives easier. May it be an animal, another person I don’t know or someone close to me I will help them as much as I can. God says I am a giver not a taker and despite all thoughts and feelings I will give everything I have to others and God himself. Ben, 8O – My thoughts on How God sees me
God thinks of me as the Sea, Simple, open and kind. Joseph, 8O - My thoughts on How God sees me God views me as a loving person as before I was born god had to make me and my personality as I know that the whole point of God creating us was to be loving , caring and careful. Arman, 8K - ‘Who does God say I am’
