Get to know the people behind Edge Grove
What is your name?
Heather Wood.
What is your role at Edge Grove?
Admin and Communications Manager.
How long have you been at Edge Grove?
5 years.
What did you do before joining Edge Grove?
My last job was at Queens' School, Bushey.
What do you love most about your job?
Helping people, solving problems and training staff.
What do you love most about Edge Grove?
The beautiful setting - in the summer, we have the office windows open, I can hear the various bands practising for Speech Day and the children playing on Edge Grove park. In the Spring when the wisteria is in bloom it looks gorgeous and in the winter the place looks stunning in the snow.
Who is your favourite colleague and why?
It is impossible to single out one favourite! All the Admin Team ladies are fantastic and help make my job easier. One of my favourites would have to be Mrs Daffon (Pauline - known to staff as Aunty P or Granny P) because when I started she was so kind and supportive, and she shares my nutty sense of humour. Mr McManus is brilliant to work with, super organised and great fun. I have to rely a lot on the Martins for getting so many things done around the school, setting up for school events and transport. No matter how madly busy it gets they always get the job done. Chef John is great to work with, he and his team work so hard, and he has a crazy sense of humour. I could go on and on!
If you could live anywhere, where would it be?
I don't really think about living elsewhere but I do like to travel and can't wait until we can have proper holidays again. Lockdown made me appreciate how lucky I have been to have been so many places in the world; getting attacked by monkeys in Thailand or a recent trip to the stunning east coast of Canada and seeing a brown bear and her cubs walking alongside the road.

What is your biggest fear? They have eight hairy legs (no not the Martins!). What did you want to be when you were little?
A vet - I grew up with loads of pets; dogs, cats, horses, goats, ducks, hens, rabbits!
Being attacked by monkeys in Thailand!
