U13 Basketball v Lochinver HouseEdge Grove 15 Lochinver House 34
Edge Grove travelled to Lochinver for their last basketball fixture before the Christmas break. We started with good intent, but unfortunately the ferocity from Lochinver caught us off guard and we took a little time to get our bearings. The effort and attitude of the pupils was fantastic throughout and Edge Grove slowly got into the game as it progressed. We have a return fixture at Edge Grove in the new year which we look forward to. The pupils will need to focus on their shot accuracy under pressure and continuing their movement without possession.
Following our success in the District Championships on November 17th all 4 of our teams took part in the County Finals. The U11 finals were held at Edge Grove on November 24th; with teams split into 2 pools the boys in their first match lost 1-7 to a strong King's team which went on to win the competition. The other pool matches were very close, 4-4 v Bengeo, 5-3 v Welwyn and 3-5 v Gardenfields. Their final playoff match was a 7-1 win over Pixmore to secure 5th place. The U11 Girls won their pool after a 4-4 draw v Greenway and wins over King James (7-1) and Welwyn (8-0) but had to settle for silver medals by narrowly losing out to King's 3-5 in the final.
The U13 teams travelled to Ridgeway Academy in Welwyn on November 28th and both teams returned with medals. The boys were unbeaten in their pool with wins over Monk's Walk (7-1), Thomas Alleyns (6-2) and Ashlyn's (8-0) as well as a 4-4 draw with St Albans. Unfortunately St Albans won more games overall so went through to the final and Edge Grove had to be content with a 6-2 victory over Sandringham to secure 3rd place and bronze medals. The U13 girls played in a league of 5 schools and their 100% record saw them become County Champions and gain gold medals.
