Music, Drama, Art
Art The children in Year 3 year are really progressing well with their skills. They can create a variety of tones with a 2B pencil and are now using these skills to detail rock formation in preparation for their final piece.
Year 4s are also doing very well, learning how artist Hundertwasser creates his very stylised art. This week they were looking in detail at his trees, sky and ground.
Year 5 are learning how to write their names using the Tudor style font before designing their tiles which may include letters or icons, or both.
The children in Year 6 have been drawing seed heads in preparation for their own designs for their final pieces, influenced by artist Angie Lewin.
The Upper School children are learning how to use oil pastels in preparation for their final pieces. Some of the children are referring to Jean Michel Basquait as their artistic influence and others are looking at Franz Marc. Both are expressionist painters from different countries, cultures and eras. Lastly, a big well done to Noah who designed this fantastic optical illusion! He worked out how to do this himself and challenged himself to complete it in his own time without any support!
Photography In Rotation and Elective Photography this week we were trying out a new programme called Pixlr Editor, this means that the children are now able to edit photographs on their Chromebook rather than on the PC’s in the IT Room. I was really impressed with how well the photographers got on and edited photos this week. We were focussing on colour selection as well as layering. Next week we shall be out taking photographs and then back in the classroom editing.
Drama
Year 5 have been recreating fairy tales by using tableaus. They have been particularly focusing on how their facial expression and body language is extremely important when creating still images for the audience to understand the character. Year 6 have been creating their own superhero and villain logos. Thinking specifically about the power they represent, how different colours and how emblems mean different things. They will think about these logos and their powers next week when they will be creating their own tableaus. The rotation and elective groups have been plotting their own stories to create their own silent movies and dramatic films. Music
Upper School choir and Year 4 choir are nearly ready for their Harvest Festival performance which will be taking place next week. There are many varied songs that will be sung in the assembly including a fabulous harvest tango! The recording is taking place soon and we are all very excited to be a part of the celebrations!
Year 3 had a fabulous time learning all about the Bassoon this week. Miss Murphy, our Bassoon teacher came in to introduce the Bassoon to them all. They learnt all about the double reed and how the Bassoon creates a sound. They also learnt that if the Bassoon was stretched out it would be 9 feet long, that’s as tall as a Giraffe!
Mr McCullum came in who is from the BBC Concert orchestra and introduced the brass family. Year 3 heard star wars, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter and the Hayden Concerto! A fantastic week! You can view a video from it here (please note that you will need to be logged in with an Edge Grove email account to access this folder).
Year 1 learnt all about the Flute and Clarinet this week. I had a fabulous assistant, Sienna, who is learning the flute, who taught all the year 1’s about how a flute works and what material it is made from. They also learnt how the sound is made. They also were able to listen to some flute music performed by Mrs Eglinton!
Year 6 have been producing some outstanding compositions this week based on film music using the programme Soundtrap. Some fascinating compositions! Please do listen to some of them. Arthur has been working on this piece of work at home and at school. A dedicated musician - well done!
