U13A v KingshottEdge Grove 4 Kingshott 8
Edge Grove had a very slow start and allowed Kingshott to score 5 tries in the first half. Edge Grove started to find a little bit of structure and when they did they attacked well and made some excellent. The second half Edge Grove started to find their rhythm and managed to come back with 4 tries in a row from Lir, Ollie C and Niky. Kingshott stepped up again and unfortunately a number of missed tackles from Edge Grove saw Kingshott score a further 3 tries to win the game. The Kingshott coach came over to congratulate the boys on their rugby and said that when they played with structure they were outstanding and that it was lovely to see. Onwards and upwards.

This season's opening fixture against Kingshott proved greatly successful for Edge Grove. After numerous weeks of matches being cancelled, the boys were all eager to start their competitive season, and did so in style. The first few moments of the game saw Edge Grove play through several phases, before passing the ball all the way down the line, through the hands of each player in the back line, before scoring in the opposite corner. An excellent team effort to begin the game.
At the second restart, Henry’s perfect kick off was chased and held up by Isaac, before Robert and Tobi won a turnover, with Edge Grove then once more passing it down the line to score.
Kingshott showed their training, with their well-rehearsed pack winning the first few scrummaging encounters. After allowing themselves to settle and gain confidence in their abilities, the Edge Grove pack began to win more and more at the scrum, and eventually punished Kingshott’s handling errors with three tries coming directly from the scrum.
The second half saw Edge Grove receive the kick - Henry caught the ball, before running through the entire defence, dotting the ball down himself.
The second half saw Edge Grove continue to dominate not only in attack, but in defence, containing Kingshott inside their own half at all times, with only one brief attacking spell providing any contest to the clean sheet. The U12 A’s had Kingshott constantly under pressure, moving up from the line quickly holding their defensive line to shut out Kingshott’s attack.
At the final whistle, Olly had scored three tries, Karsten one, Isaac one, Tobi two, Isaac two and Henry one.

After three weeks of frozen fields, cancelled games and countless practice drills, the U11 A took the field for their first competitive game for 2023. From the first whistle Kingshott moved the ball around effectively attacking Edge Grove’s try line. The Edge Grove players quickly discovered tackling a static tackle bag or tackling a running opponent from another school are two totally different matters. Kingshott scored two quick tries. Captain Marli M rallied his players and Edge Grove began to impose their defensive structures, shutting down any further attacks from Kingshott. With the resulting pressure shifting on to Kingshott, Edge Grove went on to the offensive. Harry L., Jesse W., Natty T. and Roman R. were powerful and effective in their carries upfield, resulting in plenty of go forward ball for scrum half Ben R. to feed Marli M. and Kaelan S. subsequently allowing the two wingers Joseph E. and Timi B. to attack out wide. The end result, Edge Grove scored eight unanswered tries (wingers scoring six). In the last five minutes Edge Grove took their foot off the pedal allowing Kingshott to score two tries. Well done to the team, some valuable lessons can be taken away from today’s fixture.

The Edge Grove team was superbly structured and well organised and put on a clinic today. We out thought and out played the opposition in every facet of the game. We tackled well and rucked over quickly and strongly winning possession on defence at will. On attack we ran accurately and incisively opening up holes in their defence on many occasions with support runners to connect the play. When we were tackled our loose forwards rucked over effectively to ensure that we maintained possession and continued to threaten. Led by ‘The Beast’ and captain Alex G, Edge Grove were confident and tough. We had a great belief in our ability and this showed in our attacking play. Zac was brilliant carving through their defence several times to score great tries. Tio was strong and fast and scored several tries also. Alex took the ball up well and crossed the chalk on a few occasions.Samuel ran some great supporting lines and was unfortunate not to receive the ball more. Ellie was tough and clever and scored a lovely trie and was always present at the breakdown. Arav was an excellent vice-captain and made some outstanding tackles. Winning possession for Edge Grove on several occasions. Robert was very effective around the ruck and making crucial tackles. Alfie was dogged and scrappy and tackled hard and was a crucial part of the scrummaging success. Imeth ran well and provided some excellent support play throughout the match.

Edge Grove started slowly and conceded a try early in the match. We responded well and scored 2 tries and started to dominate. Hunter was good at rucking over and made several good carries. Harry Bthe captain led from the front and tackled everything that moved. He ran strongly and scored a couple of great tries. Harry R also ran fast and accurately and opened up the opposition until he had to leave the field injured, he was also one of our best tacklers. Koby was quick to the rucks and won several turnovers through his strength and speed. Benjamin was strong when in possession of the ball and scored a lovely try from a bulldozing run. James enjoyed himself and made a couple of effective runs in the match. Nico did well in covering and was fast to the ball. Devan made a few telling tackles and a great run at the end to score a brilliant late try. Oliver showed great technique when called upon in the ruck and tackle ball situation and was keen to be involved. Overall we played well but just missed out due to some individual brilliance from the opposition.

This was the first competitive match of the season and the boys did not let themselves down, playing with passion, commitment and a lot of skill. We started well, running strongly with the ball and also off loading in the tackle to keep the play going and scoring a number of great team tries. Noham, Logan, Isaac and Benji were our main strike runners, running with pace and at good angles. In defence we were a bit slow in coming up on our opposition which gave them a lot of space and confidence. After a quick team talk, our “press” on defence was fabulous, led by Aidan, and we closed the space down and put Kingshott under extreme pressure not allowing them to play. Bolu, Brodie, Thomas and Arman all played with determination and hunted for the loose ball to create a number of turnovers. Well done to the entire team.

Edge Grove came out fighting from the first whistle, catching Kingshott off-guard early with some ferocious tackles and high intensity. This continuous pressure paid off with Kingshott making fumbles and mistakes, leading to Edge Grove scoring some wonderful breakaway tries. When EG started with possession they showed great vision, teamwork and communication to pass the ball and make runs into space. If tackled, the Edge Grove players were always in support for a quick offload or ready to ruck to protect the ball. It was a fantastic game of Rugby and wonderful to see the players all working together and bringing together what was practised in lessons. We look forward to the next fixture and hope to continue with our winning momentum and great sportsmanship.

Edge Grove visited Westbrook Hay to play in a 4 team round robin tournament, including the hosts, Beechwood Park and Duncombe Prep. Edge Grove played well within their ability remaining unbeaten on the day, hence winning the tournament. Freddie B. was outstanding on defence and his steady distribution allowed Ishaq K., Daniel G. and John N. to carry the ball effectively up field. Unfortunately the fields were a little on the small side not allowing Nathaniel H., OIiver McC., and Tommaso CT. to use their pace out wide. However, when presented with the opportunity, they dazzled the opposition to cross the line on numerous occasions. Great day out, well done Edge Grove.

This was a very enjoyable afternoon of rugby with the performance of the team improving immeasurably over the matches. We were a bit slow and tentative in the first game, letting the opposition run at us and falling off tackles. When we had the ball we were not committing the opposition or running with purpose. We had a short break before our next break and after a quick talk about our objectives we played amazing in the next two games. We ran with real pace and power with Nathanial L, Alexander G, Atlas D and Joshua C being the stand out performers. Ethan marshalled the team well by getting to the tackle and passing the ball away quickly. Alexander and Joshua were the top tacklers and Ayush M and Cyrus S grew in confidence and played extremely well in the last match.

This week we were at Westbrook Hay where two Edge Grove teams played a festival against Manor Lodge, Westbrook Hay and Beechwood Park. There was a mixture of contact and touch rugby matches as some of the other schools have had limited training with the previous cold weather. However the boys showed great enthusiasm, determination and teamwork throughout to win all of their matches. It was lovely to see the players using the tactics prepared in Games lessons to work together in defence, whilst demonstrating great speed and awareness of space to score some wonderful tries.
U11A v Orley Farm Edge Grove 13 Orley Farm 3
An outstanding team performance from the U11 A team this week against Orley Farm. The girls continue to progress each week and this match was by far their strongest so far. Edge Grove proved their versatility, responding excellently to the change of positions each quarter.
Every week the girls are growing in confidence in different skill areas. The girls were moving the ball confidently and quickly down the court, making it extremely hard for the opposition to gain possession. A lovely comment was made from an Orley Farm teacher about the speed and quality of their passes! Well done girls on a superb win.
U11B v Orley Farm Edge Grove 5 Orley Farm 6
This was an exciting game of netball with both teams striving to win. Orley Farm started strong and scored 3 goals quite quickly but Edge Grove attacked well and Holly scored the first goal. In the third quarter we really found our stride and Esme was able to score a further 2 goals, with Orley scoring 1.The fourth quarter both teams scored 1 goal each. When Orley Farm did have the ball we made some excellent interceptions, especially from Roma. For the rest of the match Edge Grove had the majority of the possession but unfortunately we couldn't quite get the ball into the post and there were a number of near misses. We worked very well as a team in this match and I was very proud of all the girls.

A wonderful afternoon of netball for our U11 D team on Wednesday. Our passion and determination shone through even though we were against a tough team. Sienna and Evie both made great interceptions that led to many turnovers. A great effort from all, well done to the girls involved.
U10A v Orley Farm Edge Grove 5 Orley Farm 5A close fought game for the girls against Orley Farm on Wednesday. The girls started strong and were determined to win. Our marking was tight and our movement over the court was fluid. However, we had a tendency to rush the passes and Orley Farm intercepted well enabling them to stay level with us throughout the game. The girls worked tirelessly throughout the match and were disheartened to be a goal behind in the last quarter. In true style of the characters on the team they were not to be defeated and did their very best to equalise in the final minute. An evenly matched game and an exciting finish. Well done girls.

This was a fantastic game of Netball, showing a lot of progression in different areas of the pitch. The team worked really well together in communicating their passing which improved throughout the game. Sienna worked hard to create space and move direction to help move the ball from one end to the other, whilst Essie and Eva made some great interceptions. Sofia and Miriam did well to mark their players and were able to score goals. Overall, the team played very well and showed great potential for future games, well done.

We had a team of four players but thankfully, two Orley Farm players graciously joined the team and played to the best of their abilities. The team then recovered and managed to score a couple of times. Julia was very good at moving around the court and making herself available to receive a pass. She also worked really well with Madison and even scored against Orley Farm a couple of times. Madison was very good at cooperating with others and played an excellent centre.
Netball Quadrangular v Beechwood Park, Westbrook Hay, Manor LodgeU9 A, B, C, D & E
An outstanding afternoon of netball from each and every team. The girls were in magnificent form from start to finish. The girls were a credit to Edge Grove with their impeccable manners on and off the court and their fantastic achievements in all their matches. They demonstrated enthusiasm and a healthy dose of competitiveness and I am thrilled to say that of the 19 matches we played, we drew one, lost only 2 and won 16!!!! A brilliant afternoon and a performance they should all be very proud of.
Year 8 Training Game
A superb performance from our mixed Edge Grove ballers who dominated proceedings from the first whistle. As a unit they showed fantastic teamwork and individually superb ball control skills that left the opposition firmly in their wake. A performance that promises hugely for the future. Well done team!
