1st XI v Beechwood Park Beechwood Park 92 for 7 in 20 overs Edge Grove 94 for 5 in 12.2 overs
Edge Grove won the toss and put Beechwood Park in to bat first in cold and windy conditions. The batsmen got off to a good start but with the Edge Grove bots maintaining their concentration we were able to take the chances that came our way to limit the run rate by taking wickets regularly. Charlie P took a fabulous diving catch as stand in wicket keeper to remove their most dangerous batsman and Luke, Kavish and Henry all took good catches. Freddie, Liam and Henry M all took a wicket when bowling but Kavish was the top performer with 3 for 12 in his 4 overs. Beechwood Park bowled well however Kavish was in outstanding form hitting a magnificent 72 not out off 40 balls which included 2 huge sixes and 10 fours. A great effort to see us over the line.
3rd XI v Beechwood Park Edge Grove won by 6 wickets Edge Grove won the toss and chose to field first. Our bowlers did a great job with; Caitlin, Mehdi, Niccolo, Jamie, Rohan and Shrey all taking wickets. Nathan took a superb wicket through some excellent fielding to hit the stumps. We restricted them to 95 runs for 7. Our batters played superbly with Nathan scoring 51 and Caitlin building a superb partnership with him to score 26 not out.
4th XI v Beechwood Park Edge Grove 34 Beechwood Park 35
The game was reduced to 10 overs due to the rain however the Edge Grove team played with great energy and enthusiasm. Max Z was the top performer and led by example however some strange LBW decisions in a soft ball cricket match meant that Beechwood Park won by 1 run.
Colts A v Beechwood Park Edge Grove 77-8 Beechwood Park 78-7
The Colts A travelled to Beechwood Park this week with the hope of repeating their resilient batting from last week against a strong bowling attack, but also a need to improve on their bowling accuracy and fielding. EG were asked to bat first and the opposition made it extremely difficult with some very accurate bowling and intense fielding. With the assistance of a late partnership between Arav J and Oliver C we managed to reach 77 after 20 overs. The team talk obviously fired the EG bowlers up as they started excellently, with some accurate bowling and energetic fielding resulting in early wickets. Unfortunately some big hitters from BP later on meant that they managed to reach our score, but a much improved bowling and fielding effort from EG this week. We look to improve on showing intent with our batting shots after the half term break.
Colts B v Beechwood Park The Colts B went into the final over of the match, needing five runs off of six balls. In what would turn out to be one of the most dramatic overs in under 11 cricketing in history, we lost two of our remaining three wickets. A couple of no balls and byes meant that we needed one run from the last ball of the match; the scores were tied at 84. We still had one wicket in hand so we knew we were not going to lose, Noah stepped up to the crease to face his first and last ball. The Beechwood Park bowler came racing in from quite a run up. He delivered a beamer, which Noah as hard as he could over midwicket, him and Marli ran for their lives and the fielder panicked, resulting in five runs being scored off the last ball, as the ball was thrown for four over throws. Victory was Edge Grove’s! Good batting performances from David Kangisser, Ayaan Zaidi and Ollie Waters helped us them keep omits in the match earlier in the innings as well as the team bowling well as a team, to keep Beechwood to only 84 runs in the first innings.
Colts C v Beechwood Park Edge Grove 123 - 10 lost to Beechwood Park 134 - 7
A great game of cricket was played by both teams. Beechwood Park were inserted and started slowly. Isaac took a wicket in the first over and the run rate was restricted until the 9th over at which point we leaked runs up until the 16th over where we started to restrict them again. Issac bowled very well as did Rishi and Imeth who took several wickets. Our fielding improved throughout the match and Billy was outstanding behind the stumps. Robert bowled a great line and length and put the batsmen on the back foot. When we came in to bat we lost two quick wickets in the first over which pegged us back. Our run rate was strong throughout the match but wickets kept falling and an inability to find the boundary regularly stopped us from accelerating. Isaac batted for around 16 overs and was magnificent throughout. The rock in our batting lineup. Aditya bowled and fielded well and formed a nice partnership with Isaac. In the end we fell just short but it was a great game. Well done boys, we keep coming so close.
Colts D v Beechwood Park Edge Grove 82-7 beat Beechwood Park 68-7 by 14 runs The Colts D had an exciting victory against strong opposition with the result in doubt until the final over. Edge Grove batted first and good runs from Karsten (15), Krish (11) and Tyler (11) helped the side post a solid score. In reply Beechwood Park started strongly but consistently good bowling kept the run rate down as well as picking up wickets from Tio, Krish (2), Karsten, Fewa and two run-outs. Overall an excellent team effort with everyone contributing to a well-deserved victory.
Colts Mr Amis v Beechwood Park Edge Grove 233 Beechwood Park 241
This was the toughest game of the season however Jamie and Artem performed really well with the bat and Kamil bowled well taking two wickets in the first over. Chase and Ben both fielded well with good energy, enthusiasm and urgency. If we had seen this from the entire team a win would most definitely been on the cards.
Colts Mr M v Beechwood Park Edge Grove 275 Beechwood Park 290
Our batting was consistent and we were able to score runs with good running between the wickets. Emin was the top batsman with good shot selection and hitting the ball strongly. We fielded well taking 3 catches however our bowling let us down with too many wides. This is something that we will have to work on improving.
U9 v Beechwood Park Edge Grove 246 Beechwood Park 239
This was a most enjoyable game of cricket with a nail biting finish. Edge Grove fielded first and the bowling improved as play progressed with 3 wickets picked up. Strong fielding meant that there were few 4’s batted by Beechwood Park. The batting pairs for Edge Grove worked well together to avoid running one another out, with only a few calls that were too close to save a wicket. Each Edge Grove batting pair got at least one 4 and this excellent batsmanship won us the match. Well done everyone.
U9 Mrs Lloyd v Beechwood Park Edge Grove 325 Beechwood Park 275 A wonderful game played with enthusiasm and great sportsmanship. Some excellent bowling, alert fielding and good communication whilst batting resulted in a very high score for BWP to chase. The team learnt from each other and worked hard to score runs. It was a pleasure to watch. To improve our performance further we must look to hit the ball hard, particularly when off the tee, and into gaps.
U9 Mr Wallis v Beechwood Park It was lovely to see so much enjoyment from all of the pupils involved, with the sun occasionally making an appearance. We demonstrated some lovely shots when batting, scoring a number of boundaries with powerful hitting and good communication at times to run between the stumps. Our bowling accuracy was excellent and there were some exciting moments from the field to make it a competitive fixture.
U8 v Beechwood Park Edge Grove 259 Beechwood Park 249
It was a very close match today. The communication between most pairs was fantastic and it was good to see the children working well together when fielding. There were a couple of excellent batting pairs scoring a few 4s. A great game was had by all and Edge Grove showed good behaviour throughout.
U8 Miss Rose v Beechwood Park Edge Grove 231 Beechwood Park 213
A super game of cricket for the U8 team with lots of energy and positivity from the children. Edge Grove started the game in the field and it was lovely to see how the bowling has progressed over the previous weeks. Well done to Aksh for some excellent and accurate bowling. As the match went on, Edge Grove were responding well to free hits taken off the batting tee, covering all spaces on the field. A special mention to Ayush for making some excellent stops and throwing accurately into the wicket to get the opponents out. Edge Grove went on to bat and this won the game for them, communicating well in their pairs and taking every opportunity to score extra runs.
U8 Mr McManus
We played a double innings match and it was great to see how much both teams improved in the second innings. The bowling was much better and the awareness in the field and running between the wickets was greatly improved. The Edge Grove boys and girls bowled extremely well however the batting does need work. We need to have greater urgency and hit the ball into the gaps with more intent.
U8 Miss Day
A really superb game of cricket by two very evenly-matched teams. The children played with lots of enthusiasm and it was pleasing to see their batting and bowling techniques improving over the course of the match. A special mention must be made for Tommy who made some excellent fielding contributions. The team showed excellent behaviour and enjoyed the match. Well done to all.
U8 Miss Jancey
As our first cricket away match, year 3 played some brilliant cricket. Edge Grove chose to bat first and demonstrated super communication skills allowing them to score plenty of runs. Eleora and Orion had some excellent hits. Fielding skills were much improved and our enthusiasm and teamwork meant we won by 4 runs. Well done to everyone who participated!
