Baccalaureate The Year 8 Baccalaureate Christmas shop is open, but not for long! Have you seen their wonderful adverts? From hydro-dipped baubles, to bespoke gift bags, to hand-made decorations and soap, the children have it covered, and your Christmas shopping is sorted! Plus, all profits are shared between our School charities. We are so impressed with how hard the children have worked in their teams - the entrepreneurial Christmas spirit has been well and truly buzzing across the Upper School!
History In the history classrooms this week, Year 7 have been looking at the Boston Massacre as a prelude to the beginning of the War of Independence. Year 8 meanwhile have completed their journeys on the 3rd Crusade and guaranteed themselves a place in heaven!
Computing Year 7 pupils have been learning about how computers handle numbers. They have been working out methods for converting decimal numbers into binary and back again. In Year 8’s lessons, we have been revisiting some of our programming skills using Scratch. This is part of our work on understanding programming.
French This week Year 7 pupils have been working on their listening and speaking skills. They have prepared a passage about themselves and family in French and they have had their first experience with CE oral questions. Year 8 pupils have been working on their writing skills and learning some exam techniques to complete longer pieces of French writing more confidently.
Geography Year 7 have been delivering presentations to the class this week. During isolation they were working on a slides doc detailing the current state of Haiti following the 2010 earthquake. The focus was on why Haiti has struggled to recover, even after 10 years. The presentations have been well received by their peers. Informative, clear and delivered with interest, the children have done very well.
Year 8 have been put through their paces this week with geography assessments and locations work. We have completed one full topic and have one more yet to tackle in January. Please encourage your children to learn their global locations, it is so important for their geography and life learning. There is an interactive drag and drop activity in their classrooms but of course there are a host of online apps and games that test them on this knowledge too.
