1st Team Edge Grove 0 Aldwickbury 3
The first team played a strong Aldwickbury team and this was another challenge to see what we have learnt in training to help with our defensive responsibilities. After fifteen minutes Edge Grove found themselves behind 3-0. We created a few half chances but the space in the middle of the park allowed Aldwickbury to put pressure on our goal. Half time saw us regroup and we began to use a holding midfield player to help our defence and goal keeper. This worked well and we created some good opportunities. Nathan and Nefeye scored a goal each and in the last five minutes Edge Grove tried to score to make it all level. We could not score but never gave up...Well played everyone and we look forward to next week. 2nd Team What an exciting game! Two teams - both determined to win! The Aldwickbury players were in most cases much bigger than our Edge Grove players. We began with trepidation but soon discovered that being smaller can have its advantages. Players like Roman, Luke and Ediz outplayed their opponents in ball skill and strategy and Nathan was always and excellent defence player. By half time, we had had many unsuccessful goal-scoring opportunities and thanks to Henry and the backs, Aldwickbury only managed to score one goal. During the second half, we attacked with determination and used some useful combination moves to score an equaliser. We had the lions share of possession and by rights should have scored more goals but they did hold off a bigger team who had plenty of substitutes. Well done, 2nds!!!
3rd Team Edge Grove 1 Aldwickbury 6
The 3rd team played an extraordinarily good, thrilling extravaganza of football against a superbly talented Aldwickbury school and were given a master class in passing and movement off the ball. In training, we look at the power of space and how this is able to create opportunities, whilst fatiguing the opposition by making the ball do the work. The team that is able to capitalise on utilising the full width of the pitch is often the victor. Aldwickbury played a quick game, often one touch football, in order to expose and ambush cracks and fissures in the defence; that at times felt cavernous. Over the course of the next training sessions it is important that we go back to basics; play the ball accurately along the ground and show trust, faith and reliance on our team mates in order to open the pitch back up.
4th Team Edge Grove 0 Aldwickbury 7 The match was far closer than the scoreline suggests and only weak shooting prevented the 4ths from scoring at least 3 or 4 goals. The midfield play was the best so far this term but the passing to teammates still needs improvement. The effort overall was excellent with Man-of-the Match Liam Sander setting a fine example. Colts A Edge Grove 2 Aldwickbury 2
We knew we had a tough game ahead of us and the boys were all fully focused before the start of the game. We got to a quick start maintaining possession of the ball well and scoring the first goal. We continued to attack and came close on scoring more hitting the crossbar and post. We went into the second half 1 goal up and Aldwickbury soon came back to score and level the game. The boys' heads didn’t drop as they continued to press the ball well and apply constant pressure on the opposition goal with Oliver C scoring a fantastic volley into the roof of the net. With a few minutes to go we were 2-1 up and Aldwickbury caught us on a counter attack and levelled the score. The best performance so far this season for the boys and we look strong hedging into the IAPS.
Colts B Edge Grove 2 Aldwickbury 2 Scorers - Otto B x2
Colts B brought the enthusiasm and exceptional teamwork that they demonstrated in their victory last week to the field today. Despite conceding early they showed willingness to chase the ball and put the pressure on Aldwickbury for the rest of the game. With George keeping EG in the game with numerous fantastic saves our pressure paid off and we equalled the score with a fine finish from Otto from a tight angle. Aldwickbury bounced back in the second half but with some solid defence we took the lead with a great corner taken by David and a powerful header from Otto. Despite continuous pressure from the opposition towards the final whistle we defended well as a team, even creating some chances of our own but the match finished a deserved 2-2.
Colts C Edge Grove 4 Aldwickbury 2
We came into this game with a lot of confidence. We trained well before the game and have been working on holding the ball up and moving into space after passing and the team responded excellently. We scored early from a bulldozing run and finish by Tobi. He exerted his immense presence through the centre of the pitch intimidating Aldwickbury. Timi was ever present on attack and defence continually making clever runs into space behind the defensive line. Kaelan held the ball up well and provided excellent crosses when in position. Marli was a rock in defence and continually thwarted the opposition attacks. His communication and presence was brilliant. Noah continues to improve week on week, mesmerizing the opposition with his dribbling prowess and ability to read and nullify their attacks easily. His value to the team is immeasurable. Billy provided a lot of energy initially in goal and thern in defence, scrambling back to intercept important attacks. Tobi was excellent in goal making a few flying saves to keep Aldwickbury out. Rishi was excellent in defence and made many telling intercepts and blocks. Jamie grew into the game and started to press the opposition to make mistakes. We went 2-0 up and then 3-0 up but a couple of goalkeeping errors from Edge Grove let them back into the game bringing the score to 3-2. Timi scored again to make it 4-2 which was the final score.
Colts E Edge Grove 0 Aldwickbury 5 The Colts went out and played an excellent game of Football on Wednesday afternoon. Harry R made some great tackles in the mid field, with great support from Joseph. Aarav saved some great goals and really committed himself to being in charge of the defence which included Harry L and Alex. Well done to all of the players.
Colts F Edge Grove 3 Aldwickbury 1
This was an excellent performance against a very strong Aldwickbury team. The boys played with guts and determination and to have the opposition coach say after the game that we won because we passed the ball more and played as a team was a real pleasure to hear. This is everything we strive for so well done boys on an excellent performance.
Colts G Edge Grove 2 Aldwickbury 2
The boys played with great skill and determination in this match, passing the ball well and making a real effort to win every 50 / 50 challenge. We started well and scored two good goals to be in command at half time. Two late goals from Aldwickbury resulted in a drawn match which was a fair result for two teams who played really well.
U9 Mr Davies Edge Grove 7 Kingshott 2 Edge Grove were the stronger team by some margin in this match and worked the space beautifully to create a plethora of goal scoring opportunities. We have been working hard on ensuring we maintain a wide position when playing and to not get drawn into playing straight through the middle where it is more dangerous to be tackled. We rotated players through a variety of positions and it was great to see everyone being so adaptable to the different challenges each position holds.
U9 Miss Turner Kingshott 2 Edge Grove 1 Edge Grove played this match with great sportsmanship. They showed positive mind sets throughout and enjoyed playing in different positions throughout the game. Jude scored a terrific goal with 2 minutes until the final whistle which was very exciting to witness. Cole and Oliver K made some fantastic saves throughout the game however unfortunately Kingshott made some great attempts at the goal and we conceded a goal in each half. A fantastic and exciting match! U9 Mrs Massey Edge Grove 6 Kingshott 0 Scorers - Shay x 3, Blake x 2, Shadmehr x 1 Edge Grove were full of determination from the start and showed that a positive mind set really does help. They supported each other throughout the match and Shay broke free to score an amazing first goal after dribbling the ball from the halfway mark. Blake H then repeated this with a great second goal. Whenever he got the ball, he worked hard to find a team mate who was free and made some excellent passes. Shadmehr made some excellent saves whilst in goal and was supported well by Blake G. Well done to the whole team for a super effort.
U9 Mr Wallis Edge Grove 6 Kingshott 0 Scorers - Taylor C x2, Daniel G x2, John N x1, Freddie L x1
Edge Grove started the game with fierce determination and never let Kingshott get their feet into the game. We used accurate passing and movement without the ball to find the space around the pitch and create lots of chances, which we took on many occasions to be ahead 3-0 at half time. In the second half we continued our high pressure with Taylor, Harrison and Arman chasing the ball up front and pushing Kingshott into mistakes. Freddie worked well in the midfield, intercepting and passing the ball to the other 3 to create many chances, but also stepping up to fire home a free kick from just over halfway. Wucheng made some great saves throughout to keep EG in the game, but was assisted excellently by the strong presence of John and Daniel, who both found the Kingshott net with some strong shots. A brilliant way to finish fixtures before half term.
U9 Mr McManus Edge Grove 7 Kingshott 2
This was a very pleasing performance from the team with everyone playing with great determination. We started slowly and allowed Kingshott to score straight from the kick off but we never let our heads go down and kept trying to play good, positive football. Maya needs to be commended for her excellent performance and well done to her, Thomas W and Zachary for all scoring good goals.
U9 Miss Harding Edge Grove 11 Kingshott 0
Edge Grove demonstrated excellent skills in their match this week. They showed a sound understanding of their positions in the game which allowed them to prevent Kingshott from scoring any goals. They were able to exploit the mistakes Kingshott made in defence. Logan, Adam-Zak, Alex and Joshua all scored some fabulous goals. A brilliant effort all round.
1st Team Edge Grove 2 Beechwood Park 6 Scorers: Nathan & Prashil
Edge Grove played a very strong Beechwood Park team. Another slow start saw Edge Grove go 3-0 down and had another mountain to climb. Edge Grove regrouped at half time and their performance produced effort and determination. Their spirit was found and goals from Nathan and Prashil saw the score at 4-2. Edge Grove produced a good ten minute spell with pressing and pace to put Beechwood Park under pressure. This could not be sustained throughout the game and the final score saw Edge Grove lose 6-2. We look forward to working on the training ground to improve our performance in the first fifteen minutes. Thank you to all the parents who supported us today. 2nd Team Edge Grove 3 Beechwood Park 0 Scorers: Luke 1 and Roman 2
After a rousing team talk from the captain, Ediz, the team took to the pitch with confidence. The first period of play saw possession and opportunity for both sides. Some excellent passes down the right wing from James, linking with Shay, who made excellent crosses into the box, saw Edge Grove increasing the pressure on Beechwood. Luke found space towards the end of the first half to put away an excellent goal.
The pressure continued in the second half with two goals for Roman and plenty of opportunities for the Edge Grove team. Henry remained solid in goal, making an excellent save to stop a penalty and tipping the ball over the goal on several occasions.
The team worked well in various formats under Ediz’s captaincy and all boys continued to fight to the end until the final whistle, ensuring Beechwood were unable to capitalise on their opportunities on goal.
3rd Team Edge Grove 2 Beechwood Park 0 Scorers: Joseph S and Sophie H
Despite the absence of five regular team members due to illness, the thirds put on a display of intelligent and determined football. Lucas was often a key defender who also booted the ball over the opposition to the forwards who went on to put the BP defence under pressure - breaking through twice during the match to score impressive goals. Sophie, Joseph, Aarav, Leo and Rohan played forward with skill and determination and never gave up, despite the opposition being bigger than themselves. It was pleasing to see Leo and Rohan outwit bigger players by a quick change of direction and excellent ball control. In defence Theo, Lucas, Evan and Oliver made some impressive saves. Theo was so often the kingpin in stopping the attack and distributing the ball effectively to the forwards.
Despite the opposition applying more pressure during the second half, EGS 3rds held on through skill and perseverance and came out winners 2 - 0. A truly great game to watch and play.
4th Team Edge Grove 1 Beechwood Park 3 Scorer: Liam S
Edge Grove produced a battling performance in an entertaining and well-balanced match; all 10 players demonstrated commendable effort and only weak shooting at goal prevented a win. A fine left footed strike from skipper Liam S gave Edge Grove the lead but a couple of defensive mistakes and a goal in the last minute enabled the visitors to snatch the win. A draw probably would have been a fair result.
Colts B Edge Grove 9 Beechwood Park 0
Our boys started very strongly pushing the opposition and squeezing possession from them. We constructed our attacks nicely moving the ball to the wings to drag their defence out and then shifting the ball through the middle as the gaps appeared. Otto ran strongly and imposed himself on the opposition throughout. David was always a threat in front of goal using his pace and strength to hold off the defence. Kellan demonstrated excellent awareness and a wide array of skills to toy with the opposition before rifling in a bullet like shot or cross. He mesmerised the defence with many of his attacking runs. In defence Yuvraaj was a calm and steady presence. Reading the situations well and snuffing out their attacks. Issac was strong and intelligent and distributed the ball well to the midfield. Noah as always was fast and efficient reading their plays and intercepting many passes averting the danger. George was great in goal and pulled off several top notch saves including a Gordon Bankseque save at the end of the game tipping the ball over the crossbar to maintain a clean sheet. Ben was probing with his runs and distributed the ball intelligently throughout. Kamil was strong and was rewarded with a goal in the second half. The goal scorers were Ben, Kamil, David, Otto and Kellan. Great team effort resulting in a 9-0 victory.
Colts C Edge Grove 0 Beechwood Park 0
The boys showed great patience and teamwork in their passing throughout the match. This created some good chances but with some good keeping from BP we were unable to open the scoring.
Colts D Edge Grove 1 Beechwood Park 7 Scorers: Jamie S
Edge Grove came up against a very strong Beechwood Park team, but despite this It was impressive to see the boys keep a positive attitude with plenty of energy throughout until the final whistle. When we had the ball we had moments of good passing but were often on the back foot from high pressure by the opposition. Special mention to Emin D with lots of solid tackles and getting everything in the way of the barrage of shots, and especially Robert W for keeping out so many shots with fantastic saves.
Colts E Edge Grove 3 Beechwood Park 7 Scorers: Karsten, Fewa & Joseph An impressive team effort, despite the cold rain and muddy pitch! The referee described the game as ‘the best Colts game he has seen all year’. Ronan saved many shots on goal from the opposition and goals were scored by Karsten, Fewa and Joseph. The boys demonstrated strong skills when weaving past the opposition and regaining possession. The teams were very evenly matched so we were unfortunate to lose 7-3, it could have easily gone the other way.
Colts F Edge Grove 1 Beechwood Park 3 A strong start to the match with great defence from Samuel who was clearing the ball out to Phoebe on the wing. With half time approaching the score was 0-2. After a good half time talk, Edge Grove went back on the field and Artem scored our first goal. With our heads held high the team kept fighting with Arjun in goal he made some great saves. The whole team showed great perseverance and the score does not reflect the standard play of the game.
Colts G
The boys played with good spirit and despite the muddy pitch conditions they did try to pass the ball around. Chase and Aditya both scored good goals and Devan and Oliver must be commended for their effort and good movement around the pitch. Andreas and Yuya impressed with their passing skills and we deserved to run out as 2 - 0 winners.
Colts H
This was an excellent performance by the team and they deservedly won this game by 6 goals to 1. The effort by all involved was fabulous and it was really good to see a determined effort to pass the ball around. Well done to all involved.
Edge Grove U11A v Manor Lodge U11A Edge Grove 2 Manor Lodge 1
A tough game for our U11 A’s against Manor Lodge. Once Edge Grove found their feet, they started to display confidence in their attacking play, utilising the space and the players on the wings. As a result, Lily-Rose was able to hold a strong position on the top of the dee and score a goal for Edge Grove. The girls continued to maintain possession and went on to scoring another goal, this time by Aarya. A great overall performance by all the girls, well done!
Edge Grove U11B v Manor Lodge U11B Edge Grove 0 Manor Lodge 0
The girls, a mixture of year 5 and 6’s played well as a team from the start. Making good use of the whole pitch they held their positions and used each other well with good passing and constantly running around. The stronger team, we dominated most of the game, and the ball was in our attacking end almost all the time. However, we were unable to capitalise on our opportunities in the D resulting in a 0-0 draw which did not reflect the strength of the team. Well done to everyone who played, for the first time as a team. A big thank you to the year 5 girls who played up for the afternoon.
Edge Grove U11C v Manor Lodge U11C Edge Grove 3 Manor Lodge 1
Edge Grove had an excellent start to the match with some dominant play from Darcey and Risha. They held their positions well and moved the ball into space. This allowed Bryony to make some amazing runs down the wing and into the dee on many occasions. This gave Anabelle the chance to score 3 goals. Defence of Sophia and Ophelia worked hard ensuring that Manor Lodge could not enter the dee, however a laps in concentration allowed Manor lodge to score, but with no time to come back.
Edge Grove U11D v Manor Lodge U11D Edge Grove 0 Manor Lodge 0 Edge Grove U13A vs Belmont U13C Edge Grove 10 Belmont 0 Edge Grove U9 B v Belmont U9D Edge Grove 3 Kingshott 1
The girls came out attacking and an early goal gave them confidence to stay on the attack. The ball barely entered our defending half and the girls passed between each other well making use of every player on the team. Special mention to Izzy who distributed the ball well and avoided the middle channel at all cost!
Edge Grove U9 A v Manor Lodge U9A Edge Grove 0 - Manor Lodge 4
A close fought match against a well drilled Manor Lodge. It was the toughest game the girls have played in a while and they rose to the challenge. They worked hard at finding space in free hits, running into space and marking. Our opponents were very good at creating a wall around the ball which we found hard to penetrate. With some excellent dribbling from Zara and solid defence and hit outs from Khavya and Deeksha we played a good game but were outplayed by our opposition on the day.
Edge Grove U8A v Kingshott U8A Edge Grove 5 Kingshott 3 Edge Grove started off extremely slowly and were running around like a swam of bees. Kingshott worked relentley to get the ball in the Edge Grove dee, although an excellent defence of Kirsten and Roshini, who worked hard to keep the goals out there were unable to stop the three goals. The second half saw Edge Grove finally wake up and play together as a team with five spectacular goals all scored through multiple passes to each other. Tilly and Ella worked hard on the wings ensuring that they dribbled down and passed the ball into space and Freya in the middle continued to steal back any lost balls and get them back into the Kingshott. With two goals being scored by Ella and two scored by Freya, Tilly slotted in the final goal before the whistle.
Edge Grove U8B v Kingshott U8B Edge Grove 0 Kingshott 4
Edge Grove looked a little bit lost this week and struggled to stay focused. Defence of Radha and Shopie worked extremely hard to try and keep the ball out of their dee. Monika in attack continued to try and get the ball down into the Kingshott half but found this difficult on her own. At half time Sophie and Radha moved up on to the wings, this gave Edge Grove more opportunities to get into Kingshotts dee but they were unable to capitalise on it. Ruelle also had a few good phases where she was able to attack down the wing
Edge Grove U8C v Kingshott U8C Edge Grove 3-2 Kingshott
Edge Grove played with enthusiasm and really gave it their all throughout the whole afternoon. Olivia and Maya both helped to score goals and bring their team to victory. They were supported well by the other members of the team, who worked hard on the accuracy of their passes and their defence tactics.
Edge Grove U8D v Kingshott U8D Edge Grove 4 Kingshott 0
Edge Grove played brilliantly against Kingshott and demonstrated excellent sportsmanship. The pitch appeared much larger than they were used to but they worked together and used as much space as they could. Naya had an excellent start by scoring within the first 30 seconds of the match; she went on to score a hatrick. Well done girls!

A very even match between Edge Grove and Manor Lodge, with both teams working hard to keep possession of the ball. As the match went on, the girls were beginning to use the space and dribble the ball confidently down the pitch. Edge Grove showed strength in defence and it was great to see the girls creating a semi circle around the ball when the opposition were taking a free hit or a side line pass. The girls will continue to work on their attacking play and gaining accuracy with their shots in the dee.

An excellent result from the u10A team, winning 3-1 against a strong opponent. Edge Grove showed superb teamwork, playing with enthusiasm and determination to win the game. The girls responded well to feedback given from previous matches and began to utilise the players on the wings to create more space when attacking. As a result, Zurella was able to take Edge Grove to a 1-0 lead. The girls continued to stay strong, showing a solid defence and intercepting numerous attempts at goal by Beechwood Park. Lacey displayed an excellent performance in attack, scoring two goals for Edge Grove. A great overall performance from the girls, well done!
U10B v Beechwood Park Edge Grove 5 Beechwood Park 3 Edge Grove dominated and held possession for the majority of the first half. There was some lovely attacking play and the girls were able to use the wings effectively. This allowed Amelie and Ellie P to score 2 goals each. In the second half Beechwood Park were stronger and we had to change our play to a defensive game. They were able to score 2 goals in quite quick succession but some lovely passing from our girls allowed Ellie P to score our fifth goal. A good game of hockey girls, well done. U10C v Beechwood Park Edge Grove 2 Beechwood Park 2 Beechwood Park were strong in the first half and we played quite a defensive game to start. There was somen good passing from our girls but we need to make sure that we are looking up and seeing who we can pass to. When we did have the ball, our attackers made some good attempts on goal and India was able to score 2 goals assisted by Jannah. Esme was strong in defense and was able to clear the ball a number of times. Well done girls.
U11A v Beechwood Park Edge Grove 2 Beechwood Park 5
On a cold and wet Wednesday afternoon, the U11A team took on the Beechwood Park A team. The first half was full of action, with both sides putting on a great display. Aria was particularly excellent in transferring the ball from the defensive half up to our attacking D. After going 1-0 up, spirits were high. Unfortunately we lost the lead and went 2-1 down. Just before the half time whistle Edge Grove successfully equalised, setting up an exciting and dramatic second half. The cold had really set in and the second half of the match really needed to girls to show their grit and stamina. Lily-Rose worked very hard up front and in goal Natasha pulled off some excellent saves! Beechwood had a flurry of attacks on our defensive D and managed to score three goals in quick succession, meaning the final score was 2-5 to Beechwood Park.
U11B V Beechwood Park Edge Grove 1 Beechwood Park 2
The U11B team really demonstrated how far they have progressed since the beginning of the Autumn term. Captain Tara was calm and reliable in defence, whilst Alex made confident moves, carrying the ball the whole length of the pitch on several occasions! Edge Grove scored the first goal of the match seconds before the half-time whistle blew! We came out fighting in the second half, Maria and Bryony applying pressure to their defence. Beechwood drew level early in the second hand and conceded a goal in the last minute of the game; leaving the score at 1-2 to Beechwood Park.
U11C v Beechwood Park Edge Grove 1 Beechwood Park 3
A strong first half for the girls against Beechwood. Using the large pitch well, staying in position and defending well we looked strong against our opponents. We had a few opportunities to score but did not manage to get the ball in the back of the net. Edge Grove made a few good saves resulting in a 0-0 draw at half time. Beechwood came out fighting for the second half and scored immediately. Our heads went down and we saw another goal scored by them very soon after. We fought back with excellent determination from Farah and Sophia in particular, passing the ball between each other and driving up the pitch.
With one more goal from each team the score ended in a 3-1 loss but the girls should be proud of their performance.
U13 v Beechwood Park Edge Grove 4 Beechwood Park 3 After a very tight game Edge Grove managed to pull ahead in the last few minutes with two goals from Emilia and one from Caitlin, after an early goal from Ami. Mali made some fantastic clearances from defence that saved us from a few tight spots and Ariana used a powerful kick out of goal on a few occasions. Edge Grove worked on spreading out and using the whole width of the pitch this week. A great win that involved a fantastic team performance, well done girls!
