Did you know that we are all made of stardust? What a lovely thought, and the children certainly sparkled on our Planets Day. There was so much enthusiasm for the topic and we were astonished by the knowledge demonstrated by all age groups. The day had a cross curricula element as we enjoyed input from the art and music department and listened in awe to Holst’s The Planets as we painted. See the photos below. If you visit Pre-School at the moment, a cry of ‘Where’s Ducky?’ can be heard and lots of little eyes dart around the site as we all search for the little chap. Although this is enormous fun of course, the intention is to encourage the use of positional language; is ducky behind the slide, under the desk or on top of Mrs Emmerson’s head? In Reception, the children have been making firework safety posters and this theme was also central to Miss McDonald’s Year 1 assembly story. Year 1 also enjoyed a visit to the science labs, where Mrs Cookson demonstrated the chemistry behind fireworks with some exciting pyrotechnic experiments. As we head towards Remembrance Day and our whole school virtual assembly next week, Year 2 have been writing letters from the trenches from the perspective of WWI soldiers. The sights and sounds of that terrible time were evoked in their words. We very much enjoyed listening to Nanny Margaret ( Miss Chaplin’s grandmother) tell us all about her memories of being a little girl in WWII and we also explored an air raid shelter with her father, known to all in Pre Prep as Magic Grandad.
