The Year 3 staff were greeted after half term with a vast array of paintings, structures and Stone Age tools. It was lovely to see how much work went into the optional prep and we hope the children enjoyed making them as much as we have enjoyed seeing them. Our new topic is the UK, Oceans and the water cycle and our science focus is rocks and soils. We have so far explored the structure of the earth and have compared it to a hard-boiled egg. In English, we have been inspired by Bonfire night to create our own poems using onomatopoeia, alliteration and personification. The children have enjoyed listening to other poets, reading their work with expression and enthusiasm. In maths, we have been practising our addition and subtraction skills and have been applying these in various ways including missing number problems.
Remember, Remember has been the theme of the week as the children have returned to school keen to start rehearsals for their pantomimes. In English lessons the children have been looking at persuasive writing. Tensions rose in Miss Treadwell-Collins’s English group as the children held their own presidential debate. Ask your child to explain the arguments for and against Trump and Biden. See if they can share with you some of the alliteration or rhetorical questions they created for both candidates. In maths the children started to explore the perimeter and area of a variety of 2D shapes. Year 4 were introduced to their new Geography topic ‘Passport to the World’. They astounded their teachers by confidently naming the 7 continents and some of the countries that can be found there. Science lessons had the children classifying animals and discussing their various habitats. The children thoroughly enjoyed discussing how these animals had adapted to their environments. Did you know that some species of frog freeze their bodies in order to survive the cold winter?
Pupils have also loved making their 0s and Xs game in Technology! Well done all on a fantastic week.
