Edge Grove Print from Mark Yarrow We are delighted to offer you the opportunity to purchase a print of one the latest drawings of Edge Grove drawn by one of our Old Boys, Mark Yarrow (Gills 1976). We showcased some of Mark's work in our previous newsletter and then commissioned Mark to draw the front of the school as a leaving gift for Ben Evans. His incredibly detailed finished piece is stunning and although Ben holds the original pencil drawing, Mark has agreed to provide a limited number of prints of the piece to be sold to raise money for the school.
The print is 43cm x 23cm landscape and will come rolled in a tube for you to have framed in the style of your choice at a later date. Each print costs £25 plus post and packaging. This really is a stunning representation of the front of the school that has seen few changes over the last 85 years and a treasured memento of your time here.
If you would like to purchase one please email egs@edgegrove.com.
Matthew Cook (OB 1977-82) went on to Harrow after leaving Edge Grove and then onto The City of London Polytechnic to study Politics. After a stint in the property industry he and his wife have set up their own cider making business in Melton Mowbray producing Cidentro cider. He has a special offer for Edge Grove Society members who are cider lovers.
Cidentro Cider House, founded by Matthew Cook and his wife Hiranthi, produce a unique range of ciders created from English cider apples. Inspired by tradition and a time when English cider was a distinguished drink, they aim to bring a modern approach to cider for enjoyment in the same way as wine. They started the business in 2017 by planting an orchard of 540 cider apple trees on their farm near Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire.
Cidentro ciders are made from 100% pressed juice, using the very best carefully selected English heritage cider apples, fermented in the same way as wine, albeit apples instead of grapes. After fermentation, the cider is racked off and then matured for 6-12 months to allow flavour characteristics to fully develop. In our orchard we have seven different varieties of cider apple that range from bittersweet and bittersharp varieties to sweet and sharp, each with varying levels of tannin, acidity and natural sweetness. The fully matured ciders are then blended to secret recipes to produce new, exciting cider flavours unique to each Cidentro cider. We sell our ciders in wine size bottles (75cl) too which is a bit different and perhaps an alternative to wine? It’s best served chilled either on its own or as a pairing with food. From a hat full of apples – a nod to the verse in the Wassail incantation “….hats full, caps full, three bushel bags full” – comes a cider to celebrate. Our current range includes a still cider, sparkling cider and a rosé cider created from a blend of English cider and English Pinot Noir wine. These ciders have recently won Silver and Bronze medals at the International Cider Challenge 2020, have been featured in the Guardian newspaper and appeared on Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch. Having launched our website and online sales in February 2020 just before the Covid pandemic took grip on the UK it’s been a difficult first year of trading and it holds continued uncertainty. Any support would be greatly appreciated! We deliver throughout the UK, buy online from the Cidentro website https://www.cidentro.co.uk and use coupon code EGS10 at checkout for a 10% discount.
