Irwing Bokobza (EG 1987-91)

Dominic Selwood (EG 1979-84)
Latest history book, Anatomy of a Nation: A History of British Identity in 50 Documents is doing well and I spoke about it at a special British Library talk! Retired from the Army (Reserve) in January 2022. Latest ghost story, Cotton Cleopatra F VIII: The Abbess’s Tale, was published in July 2022.
Justin Hunt-Davies (EG 1978-83)
Still in the Diplomatic Service and now serving in South Africa, probably the last move as the dog pines for Wiltshire. Three children now grown up with one finishing university, one rowing full time in Henley and one working out what to do after a degree at the Courtauld. Becca still putting up with me after 27 years. Edge Grove still feels like yesterday.
Chengzhi Xu (EG 2011-15)
Chengzhi Xu (G’14) had just finished his 2 years in the Singaporean Army. He is now studying at Sciences Po, A political sciences school in France. Thank you Mme. Grandemange for fostering my love for French. :)
Daniel Squier DL (EG 1952-57)
Edge Grove 1952 -57. Head Boy and captain of cricket. I think I may be the only head boy with 3 vice-captains (one for each term).
Still in contact with:
Geoffrey Godbold. Now an important man in the City of London I think though he, like me must be nearing 80.
Nigel Bickerton. They farmed in Northampton and the farm was swallowed up by the M1 at Rothersthorpe. Brother John is still with us. I see Nigel’s widow, Elizabeth, occasionally at Essex farmers social occasions. She is with OEG parent Andrew Streeter, who lives near Bishop’s Stortford.
I live on the same farm at Rochford near Southend on Sea. We have been here since 1917 and my ancestors farmed in Barking and Dagenham in the 1600s. Essex man!
I was made Deputy Lieutenant of Essex in 2012.
I could make a list of the committees that I served but you would find a bit boring I think. I have been involved in the Young Farmers Clubs, NFU, Writtle Agricultural College, Agricultural Training Board, Rotary Clubs and Multiple Sclerosis Society, local community charity, etc.
Proud father of 3 and I have 8 grandchildren. One of my main EG memories was when Captain Pratt died and Jeremy Waterfield (Jolyon’s younger brother) was killed in a car crash near Watford. He was only 21 or so at the time. Both in the same week or two in 1954 I think. Jimmy Pratt spoke to the whole school in the hall and helped us understand what was, I expect for most of us, our first experience with death.
Captain Pratt was injured in the 1914-8 war and was always in a wheel chair. He was a frightening figure, gruff and unsmiling. He took the occasional lesson and heard that he caned a boy for forgetting the 7x table! He must have kept his cane in the old fashioned wheel chair! Mrs Pratt and Mrs Waterfield were very motherly to us all especially new boys.
Mrs Waterfield had a loud voice and she answered the phone from my concerned mother on my first night. I heard her say “Daniel is sound asleep”!
We were all sent home for the Queen’s Coronation in June 1953.
Roger Sparrow (EG 1941-49)
I retired as a GP working in Maidenhead in 2000 after 33 years. Now just getting old and using two sticks. Interests mainly my family and garden. I go to Cornwall (St Mawes) for holidays. Would be delighted to see any contemporaries.
Etienne Hathaway (EG 2014-20)
Etienne attends Mill Hill school now and has been raising money for a charity called BIFT (Bright Ideas for Tennis), which works to enable children and adults with disabilities to be involved in playing tennis. In February he played in a tennis marathon at his school, Mill Hill School, then he was invited to take part in a tennis marathon at the National Tennis Centre in March, playing with Davis Cup and Fed Cup pros, from 8pm to midnight. Both were to raise funds for BIFT.
He also volunteered to be trained by BIFT to deliver tennis lessons to children and adults with disabilities. He is very much looking forward to his first opportunity to deliver coaching to the children and adults supported by the charity.
Howard Thompson (EG 1960-66)
After stepping down as a Borough Councillor in Spelthorne in 2019, my wife and I have moved to Surrey Heath and I am now a Governor of a primary school in Farnborough and, for my sins, Chairman of the Conservative Policy Forum in Surrey Heath.
Together with singing with two choirs I keep more than sufficiently busy!Politics continues to be my main interest, and meeting Liz Truss in the leadership hustings has been the highlight of the year. We continue to live in 'interesting' times!
Miles Waterworth (EG 2010-14)
Miles became English Schools champion in the 800m. He attends Brighton college and has also represented England at an international competition in Belfast.
Edward Fielder (EG 1956-1963)
After a career in General Dental Practice I have been retired for 13 years and am enjoying a very active retirement with a canal narrowboat and a motorhome. We have a large garden and two allotments. The gardening club, The National Vegetable Society, a local model railway club, covid vaccination clinics and lots of holidays keep me busy.
My wife Valerie, our three children and four grandchildren all contribute to never a dull moment!
Byrony Sanders (EG leaver 2022)
After leaving Edge Grove I am now at Queenswood School. I enjoyed and thoroughly loved my time at Edge Grove, it was a happy time and a big part of my life and the years went so quickly.
Now at my new school I am an art scholar and learning a lot about the world of art and design and finding it very enjoyable as well as making new friends along the way and trying new activities of which there are so many to choose. I am really enjoying fencing, cookery and trampolining, learning Japanese, Spanish, playing for the U12s hockey team and I have started boarding two days a week which is so much fun and I get to hang out with my new friends and my friend Annabel Shannon from Edge Grove. And the food is pretty good too and they have a tuck shop.
