Golf Day 2021

A wet and windy day did nothing to dampen spirits for this annual event. Despite the bad weather and continued restrictions we had 26 golfers from our School community of Alumni, new parents, governors and past parents come together at Aldenham Golf Club for the day.

Lisa McDonald, our new Head, came to present the prizes and meet some of our Old Boys. It’s a great way reinforce friendships and connections from Edge Grove so please look out for details of the next one and hopefully we can get a ladies team next time
too.

This year’s winning team for the Stableford competition were Henry Schreier, Sean Gorman and Rob Millard (OB’s from 1996)

I thoroughly enjoy these events as it is a chance to have a chat with old friends/acquaintances and to make new ones. I was particularly pleased to see Mark Yarrow who I have not seen for a very long time. Although still miffed he beat me in the final of the high jump on Sports Day back in 1976 he is a lovely man. He was the first successful practitioner of the Fosbury Flop at Edge Grove which beat my scissors hands down!

Thank you for the tremendous effort that you make for organising the day. We never see any of the behind the scenes problems that you've solved: we just rock up and expect it to happen. So thank you from all of us for making it run so smoothly and for making it so enjoyable.

Alumni v Staff Cricket Match - Sunday 27th June

Sadly due to unsettled weather the Alumni v Staff match was cancelled on the morning of June 27th but having prepared match tea and not wanting to waste the opportunity to consume it we set up the horse box and small marquee to host tea for anyone that wanted to still come along.

It was a chance to say farewell to Jess and Alistar Eglinton who had been at Edge Grove for the last 20 years with Jess as Head of Music and Ali as a jack of all trades, sports, music, head of houses, gardener and general all round top bloke! The Eglintons are relocating to Devon where Jess takes up post of Head of Music at Plymouth College.

We welcomed back several families on the day to bid their farewells; Anastaciou, Clayden, Elson, MacDonald, Power, Watkins, Haworth,Ovia, Marrett and Allen.

They had a chance to meet the new Head Lisa McDonald who served Pimms from the Horse box and the rain held off in the end until the last few minutes.

Alumni Visits

It was lovely to welcome back Johnnie Mathieson (EG 1969-1975) to talk with our Year 8 pupils about the film industry. It was a fascinating and very insightful talk!

We also welcomed Jeremy (EG 1948-1952) and Martin (EG 1955-1960) Skipper back for a walk around the grounds in the sunshine.
